I can run on my PC with Intel CPU any Android app compiled for ARM within a virtual machine which simulates the ARM processor. That is how apps for iOS and Android phones are built, on PCs and run through virtual ARM processor on Intel processor. You do not need hardware for ARM to run apps for phones on PCs.

YOU are the novice.You better get some computer engineering classes, Nvidia, Broadcom have such chips which can be on when Intel CPU is off, to wake up the computer with peripherals, nothing new excepting that rather to use dedicated microcontrollers Apple wants to replace them with cheap phone chipsets to save some bucks. Presently even high class TVs are made with 4 or 8 core ARM used by phones to implement the on-screen menus, remote control receiver and simple TV apps and work worse than dedicated real time chips, just to save money at the cost of quality, I have a Samsung smart TV with 4 core ARM and changes the channels and volume with less promptitude than a TV from 90s, sometimes crashes and reboots in the middle of the TV show, now the show is make electronics with hardware for Android cheap phones.

What kills me, is this is untrue. The Intel is their for Mac's OS/X. The ARM processor will ultimately be used for iOS apps in the long run. Because most iOS developers still do not code for Swift. Even then if you make a Swift app and it has any native ARM code for iOS devices. Then it cannot run on Mac's. So I see Apple running both ARM and Intel processors simultaniously on a Mac. So the iOS apps and store can run on all Macs with this new ARM SoC. I think Apple is preparing to combat both Windows 10 Continuum and Chrombooks that now run both Android and Chrome OS apps.

"The new chipset will run alongside the *existing Intel processors* to handle low-power tasks."
Those who'll want to run Windows on their Mac won't be stopped by that at all . Besides, there are already a few applications which allow you to run the Windows 10 programs AND the operating system *in parallel* with OS X.

Pesti, 02 Feb 2017Pressured by windows 10 on arm. No. If Apple wanted, they could switch completely to ARM because they have the OS in their hand. But they want to keep the support for other OS so that nobody says "apple removed headphone jack on iPhone 7, now Parallels support on Mac"

Nothing new here, just the novice get impressed, lots of cheap PCs and all others have such microcontrollers based on other architectures than Intel CPU to handle simple tasks in parallel or suspend mode of the main CPU.
