I have used iphone 5 black and now the iphone 7 plus matte black. the Matte black coating seems to be better than the iphone 5 black coating. I have case on it but my understanding is that unless you drop it or actually scratched it it will not chip under normal use... in a case LOL

Hahaha, I also notice this, so I think it would be safer to go with the silver color since the antenna band for the gold and rose gold are bit annoying

Still this isn't happening to other companies so it's clearly a poor job from apple. I'm glad your phone is ok, and god forbid anything happen to such an expensive device.
But one can't be too careful, and even if you are the paint is a cheap finish.. get a case or i dunno, get it in silver.
