Anonymous, 15 Feb 2017Then how is it the total shipment of laptops is greater tha... moreIt's not. Tablets are king and will continue being so for the rest of the years:

Be better informed, and if it was not for companies nobody would buy new laptops, you would see sales one third of tablets.

You're a niche user, get over yourself.

Application development is targeted towards mobile systems these days. Laptop quality has been terrible since the move to 16:9 displays, chiclet keyboards, and now crappy pwm on screens causing excessive eyestrain.

How is it that a $799 iPad Pro has a better display than a $4000 Thinkpad P70? Looking at you, pwm.

The race to the bottom has bled the laptop market dry of any quality control whatsoever.

Tablets are a better bang for the buck. Want a keyboard? You can get a better tablet keyboard from Razer or Zagg than 95% of the laptops on the market. Wanna go someplace austere? Throw your tablet in a hardened case. No fans, less moving parts, better screen.

Real work is done on still desktops. But with a solid tablet + keyboard, you gain 90% of a laptop's functionality without any of the crap resolutions, crap pwm displays, relatively high maintenance of securing a desktop operating system, and poor keyboard layouts.

Tablets have as much usefulness as wearables like smart watches. Eventually, people will go back using an actual desktop/laptop computer and their smartphone for their main computing.

The other stuff like iPods, iPads, and Apple Watch is just for excess and showing off. Fads that die out. Samsung and LG could revitalize the tablet industry with foldable displays but the phablets will eventually kill it since tablets don't have the telephony part except for VOIP calls.

That's why I laugh when some say an iPad Pro can replace a MacBook or any laptop. It never will. First off, iOS is far more limiting than OS X. And while smartphones are the most important in our lives, they still can't do what desktop computers can actually do like run important programs, touch type, truly multi-task, and display the full website.

Smartphone fans can not underestimate the power of a desktop experience. Alot of people salivating over new specs and design are all for gimmicky trends. I wished Apple refocused back into their roots - computers. I think OS X is far superior to iOS. Not focus on trendy phones that are more like fashion accessories which get tossed away every two years.

Why Asus so small.. Where Lg sales.

Its a matter of preference. I have an iPhone 5s which I use for calls and quick tasks, an iPad mini 3 for work and a macbook pro 13.3 for home. Macbook is obviously much better to use than the iPad but the portability factor is quite important. Tablets still have a place and will continue to do so in the foreseeable future.

I prefer a laptop for gaming. a high end smartphone on the go and daily usage. I owned an ipad sadly not using it at all cuz it is so bulky and i cant do anything with it. I wouldnt want to buy a tablet anymore.

Savor, 15 Feb 2017Because laptops have already hit its saturation point a few... moreWrong, tablets are more useful. Many people only do consumption, a laptop is a useless artifact to them and their phones too small. There is a reason why tablets sell more than laptops. People are fed up with traditional computers... Your personal opinion is irrelevant , you're a niche user.

Savor, 15 Feb 2017Because laptops have already hit its saturation point a few... moreI do my media consumption and browsing on my smartphone it's just connected to a monitor and scaling everything to desktop mode. It's the windows 10 phone obviously and using the dock not wireless. Wireless is a bit delayed for my liking.

Anyways, you're right I just keep my phone with me, continue my experience either in small form factor or desktop. All I do is sit down and use it. Then get up and keep using it. It's definitely the future since phones should be capable of dealing with most peoples computing needs. Even having a cheaper laptop shell with battery/screen and still using your phone is a better solution in my opinion. Again, some things will need more powerful solutions, but the average person doesn't.

So I believe that's part of where the future is heading. Ms may have started the trend but it looks like Even samsung and Google are trying to do something similar.

Anonymous, 15 Feb 2017Laptop market shrunk too. By only reporting tablets shrinki... moreBecause laptops have already hit its saturation point a few years back. Also, tablets are far more useless than an actual laptop. I always felt back in 2010 when the iPad was introduced that tablets were a fad just like iPods. Look at it now. A real computer and smartphone is all you really need. I still prefer media consumption and web browsing on a laptop. I don't like mobile sites from a smartphone. A laptop won't die anytime soon even if the market shrinks.

Obviously the tablet market is shrinking, but it will shrink even more if companies don't even attempt to make new exciting flagship tablets anymore (as has been the case for the past couple of years). Hope this trend changes at MWC.

Not surprised. Most of my friends and I use our phones for our daily media consumption thanks to almost 6 inch screen. My iPad Air has been collecting dust in my desk for almost a year now and have not touched my Amazon tablet in a couple of months. If I really need to do heavy computing task, I use my laptop or desktop for that. Having everything in one device is the future. Less to worry about charging all our devices regularly.

When those 2 in 1 shrink in size, tablets will probably die faster than a laptop.

Laptop market shrunk too. By only reporting tablets shrinking fanboys think that computers are on the rise. They are not, in fact they are shrinking faster in the long run. Soon we'd live in a world of phones first, tablets second, laptops third and only few enthusiasts still owning desktops.

So yeah tab sales shrunk, still sell more than any other form of computer (except phones I guess).
