Unless you want mobile VR - in that case, every pixel matters. Unless standalone VR headsets take over.

I would say 1080p screen is the sweet spot

There is definitely a place for 4k screens for the best quality viewing mode experience I
then just lower by software too run at 1080p most of the time for power saving

Definitely not anything wrong with 4k screen panel on smartphone but better be able set custom res

Given the size of screen on mobile and on top of battery life requirements and and mobile hardware specs and processor not being as powerful as they should be

Yeah 480p and 720p do definitely have a place as well also

Just the processor and the screen it drives need too be a good match and big battery are always welcome and preferred

I prefer 2K, as it's sharp and really not that bad for battery life (if you genuinely need several days out of a phone... what are you doing with a smart phone?) however 1080p is perfectly acceptable.

I think 4K gets stupid though, as it really is cramming an absolutely psychotic amount of pixels into a screen that is rarely bigger than 6". I'm pretty sure you stop being able to perceive well before that limit.

720.... on everything but a sub-$120 phone, should be a capital crime. 1080 is the bare acceptable minimum in my book.

First, we have to bear in mind the resolution hierarchy: HD, Full HD (2K very similar), QHD, UHD (4K very similar). I can perceive that a QHD screen is more comfortable to look at than a Full HD. Nevertheless, if I saw a UHD or 4K screen, I don't think my retina has enough cell density to see the difference.

VR in games is at least 10 years away, who cares to wait as much anyway. They should aggressively push the idea of having an 100 inch screen wherever you go , it's awesome VR gaming is not, it's very early to talk of that.

4k phones + Netflix VR + light viewer is the present. Proper VR is far in the future and that's definitely what I was talking about.

1080p on the other hand is definitely the past and I'm sick and tired of people so devoid of imagination that actually against new techno logins, that are content with buying the same tech year after year (like iphone users being stuck to the same PPI for 7 years now).

Not only is it not interesting, it actually keeps society back. I honestly don't want or need a TV, oh please aggressively push the headphones of TVs (4k phone + lightweight viewer)...

Is that why Apple and Huawei's most premium phones will have AMOLEDs and not LCD's?? Guess they having inferior tech and charging more for it, while they have superior LCD tech and sell those phones cheaper? Makes sense right.

Amoled displays have always been better than LCD the screens are thinner, they dont need a backlight, they flexible and can be curved.

Further more, just yesterday updated my S7 to 7.0 and when I switch between WQHD and 720p - I can only see the difference from very close proximity, on super fine text. Something I would never experience daily. I voted for 720p before (for 5" phones) saw the [no] difference.

People don't get the point o... more1080p is still the norm actually for all non-VR purposes. 4K is good for VR, but VR itself is still developing and VR on mobile screens is still farther behind. Until VR has reached that level of perfection, it remains a niche technology, used sparingly more often than not. That's why 1080p is still perfect for a daily driver.

Even movies at usually watched at 1080p, 4K channels and 4K streaming is still not widespread either to lack of availability or lack of practicality. Even upto 6 inches, 1080p remains reasonably crisp. QHD for 5.5inch+ screens is fine too.

AnonD-632062, 19 Feb 2017So 1080p wins the poll. Wise choice! Not a wise choice. Bad choice. People don't get the point of VR/4k and the fact that 4k can basically be 1080p to everything but VR. Basically that 4k is this era's 1080p. People live in the past and hold misinformed or malinformed opinions.

These polls are silly, Apple built an empire by *not* asking people, peopLe intristincally know what they want, but they don't know how to form it into words/thoughts. Polls like this will always be wrong.

Yes, some (not most) of Android ROMs have the option to switch the screen resolution. But this only makes sense if it is a direct proportion, i.e. 4k to FHD, as 2160p is double the 1080p count. But changing a 1080p screen to 720p is just non-sense, as the pixels will be in the border of a colour. You should buy what makes sense to you. For me, 1080p is essential, with 3000mAh minimum of battery capacity. For my sister and mother, 720p is enough, with the 4000+mAh battery of the Xiaomi Redmi 3S being the perfect phone, as it last two to four days, respectively, with the use they give to their devices.

If im getting QHD screen quality or even a 4K screen and its efficient im fine with it. Sure QHD takes a toll on battery life but theres QHD phones like Note 4 and Galaxy S7 edge and they have better battery lifes than phones that only have 1080p screens in them.

                                  Note 4 has a 1440p display, a 3220mah battery and 90 Hour endurance.
                                  S7 edge as a 1440p display, a 3600mah battery with 92 Hour endurance

                                  Iphone 7 Plus has a 1080p display, a 2900mah battery and a 75 Hour endurance.
                                  Iphone 6s Plus has a 1080p display, a 2750mah battery and 85 Hour endurance.

I have gone back to using 1080p screens and they not as sharp as QHD.

JordanBaby, 19 Feb 2017And this is why CLEDIS should be implemented on smartphones... morehm cledis is awesome but im not sure I understand this 100ppi thing? Wouldnt that be bad for resolution?

i know the strength of cledis is the amazing contrast it can achieve due to mantaining the deepest blacks while illuminating everything else without messing with the black. best of both worlds basically.

Also JDI and JOLED are sharing their findings in OLEd technology because they've improved the tech and removed a lot of the issues found in the other competitors.

we will likely see OLED in xperia flagships before cledis. but OLED in xperia will mean thinner display which means more space for other stuff like battery or bigger sensor.
