Still wants you to think of it as a PC.

(And by the way, 'Retina' displays are just a marketing term by Apple, and these iPads aren't even marketed with a 'Retina' display)

iPad Pro represents the future of operating systems though. A strict W^X enforcing operating system with sandboxed apps. It's mobile, has excellent battery life, and doesn't give you eyestrain unlike the cheap pwm displays on most laptops.

Its more secure than desktop Linux, which a lot of people here swear by. In 4-5 years, after the Wayland transition, and maybe once people stop disabling SELinux because they blindly follow some HOWTO written by tards on the Arch Wiki, maybe desktop Linux will be as secure as iOS or Windows 10.

Last tweet in ad: "An iPad Pro is not even close to being a computer".

True Words. It is still far behind a computer.

Anonymous, 18 Feb 2017Limited battery life and screen size.I have old Netbook with touchscreen and really medicore Atom CPU, and using PROPER browser and PROPER application it can run for about 7-8H nonstop. If I would use it as tablet to browse internet and sometimes watch movies, in power-saving mode I need to charge it once per 2 days... and still use PROPER applications.
And it cost me less than 300Euro

For checking mail and social media... guess what? I have mobile phone! How cool is that?

So no, iPad cant replace even cheap and a bit old Netbook with Atom CPU in daily usage.

Anonymous, 18 Feb 2017I think it all depends on use case. Think of your more ever... morePropably not.
You don't get a low range laptop in this price segment. You get a mid range one.

From that point on it's all about the options. You don't have any with the iPad. What are the odds to keep the machine between 4 to 5 years and not have a single change on the type of usage?
Let's say you're a student. How long before someone asks you to fire up your SPSS? There are a bunch of Windows-only programs that others take for granded you can use. Even with MS Office you might eventually need the full version. iPad can't do it. Or games...
At the same time Windows can do split screen, application swapping, even better browsing (sites are more detailed, providing more options and content to the user) and file management without all the Appleneck restrictions...

Alongside you get the hardware. A couple of extra USB ports, a dvd reader (yes you really don't know when you'll need one), a separated GPU, half a terrabyte of storage and twice the RAM.
Oh and 15.6 sceen that you don't have to stick on nose...

For the same 600 to 700 euro that is.

Apple is advertising the iPad Pro as a PC replacement, which is silly. And I have to ask, for the average user who regularly browse the internet, use email and what not, why don't you just use a smartphone instead of an iPad Pro? It is more logical that way. What's so different from using an iPad than a smartphone when doing those activities?

I think it all depends on use case. Think of your more every day average PC users. web browsing, email, maybe students using Microsoft office, is an iPad pro better than a PC for these tasks? Could be. I prefer to browse the web and do email on a tablet than a PC, dedicated touch apps on tablet are normally way better than browsing the alternative website on PC, and whilst Office for PC is more fully features than the tablet versions, for what most people want to do, it does it absolutely fine. Would a student prefer an iPad over a low-mid range windows PC, probably
