many comments below is ridiculous, they text shit like they can make one and compete with what Xiaomi's or they are professional specialist who work for Qualcomm or AMD lol Its good if you have many option, it will rid down the price to more affordable and reasonable. Imagine if in this world just Qualcomm with SD, Apple with A, and Huawei with Kirin, how the hell they will price their product since it become triangle monopoly. Be positive!

Building SOCs is no easy task. It's not like putting pieces ( Cortex cores ) in a puzzle.
e.g. Snapdragon 652 is a 8-core, 28nm fabricated SOC intended for mid-range devices. Helio X20/25 on the other hand is a 10-core, 20 nm one intended for flagships.
Some would expect the latter to obliterate the former but in real life usage the Helio is only marginally better.

If the designer can't design the SoC properly, the SoC will end up have problem like heating up (SD810), under-performed (SD615), power-inefficient (SD820/821), and so on.
Moreover, making custom core need TONS of MONEY, R&D, & a lot of human resources, something only GIANT companies like Qualcomm, Samsung, Apple, Intel, & AMD can do.
This is also the reason why custom core SoCs priced higher than reference ones, one of the reason why flagship smartphone pricing tag goes higher every year.
If u only use the phone for social network or gaming, normal SoC with reference core like Snapdragon 65x or MediaTek Helio SoC are the best, as the perfomance/power-efficient value of them are great, equipped with bigger RAM will make the device lag-free.

1. Custom CPU is a GIMMICK which often worse than the reference.
Why? Cuz the performance difference between reference & custom are small, while the power needed for powering custom core are not necessarily as efficient as ARM reference ones, proven by Snapdragon 820 & 821 Custom Kyro 100, that's why Qualcomm is using semi-custom core in 835 to make it power-efficient while keep its powerful CPUs.
2. Mali G71 is fancy & powerful GPU, while still keep energy-efficient in mind. When u compared it to Adreno GPU, Mali is MILES BETTER, proven by Mali T880 MP4 in Kirin 960 & Helio X20 series which is slightly better than Adreno 510. If 4core GPU is enough to be on par with Snapdragon high-mid range GPU, then 8-12 cores options are even better.
In short, SoC manufacturers can equip the same GPU with different cores while still keep the high performance & battery-efficient.
3. 10 nm fabrication architecture is BRAND NEW fabrication, DID U come from the FUTURE where 1nm is the trend OR did u just come out from a CAVE with no internet connection?

If they at least had custom cores. The 8895 has 4 M2, the 835 has 8 Kyro II, the A10 has two Fusion cores... But the A73 does a great job anyway. I really am looking forward to the benchmarks...
