AnonD-22157, 15 Nov 2017I always ask myself this question? How Samshit, Appletrash ... moreOwww...Thats the worst thing to hear. But yes, Samsung and Apple cannot and will not create such cameras because the understand market trend. People sacrifice quality for looks. People want their photos to look good on screen only. Nokia was for Pixel Peepers. Pixel Peepers have moved to DSLR, or are non existent. One of my friend likes his iPhone 6s camera only for Chrome and not for quality. World is saturating with idiots unfortunately.

AnonD-50024, 01 Mar 2017I somewhat agree to this. I keep on changing camera phones.... moreI always ask myself this question? How Samshit, Appletrash can't develop such a better camera like 808?!(mine was stolen)

Anonymous, 27 Feb 2017Still cannot beat nokia 808 pureview 41mpI somewhat agree to this. I keep on changing camera phones. I have used Mi 5, Samsung S6 n S7, G5, 1+3, X-Z5 even. None of them is close to 808.
How is that possible? How can a 5 years old device still has an upper hand in quality?
People now-a-days compare phones by contrast/saturation/sharpness on device screen. Screens are improving as well, so everything on device looks good.
I am a pixel peeper.
I actually compare 34/38 MP resolution to cameras with 16+ MegaPixels.
And I compare 8 MP PureView images with the recent 12 MP Monsters like S7 and iPhone 7.
Now-a-days, camera phones have started using bigger sensor. Thats right, but it comes to 'pixel-size' where all the difference is made (same thing, bigger sensor means bigger pixels, but a different perspective). S7 and 808 have same pixel size i.e 1.4µm. iPhone 7 has a smaller pixel size somewher ~ 1.2µm. OnePlus 3 has even smaller pixel size of 1.12µm. Smaller the Pixel, smaller light it can retain. To compensate, newer mobiles use BSI sensor with wider apperture lens modules to allow more light. However, this results in higher crosstalk and pixel bleeding, which eliminates fine details.
In PureView Mode, the pixel size of 808 changes vastly. It has 3.1µm large pixel in 8MP(4:3/16:9), 4µm large pixel in 5MP(4:3/16:9), 5µm large pixel in 3MP(4:3) and 5.8µm large pixel in 2MP(16:9)
According to Nyqvist Theorem, you really need oversampling for good results.
Now when you zoom, in PureView mode, oversampling decreases and the pixel size changes from 3.1µm, 4µm, 5µm and 5.8µm to 1.4µm, i.e the real pixel size, which is actually lossless. Oppo is providing 2x zoom, with interpolation, which in real life can 'never' be reffered to as lossless.
808 do fails in certain things like low-light photography and videography due to lack of OIS and a smaller (by today's standards) f/2.4 aperture. Also lacks 4K. But I don't think 4K was a major standard back then (Galaxy S3 or iPhone 5 were limited to 1080p too).
Apart from this, 808 is one of the rarest phones that offer very wide dynamic range, resulting in no need of HDR in daylight. On the downside, it has no HDR functionality, but offers bracketing for PROs.

consumersmartphone, 28 Feb 2017Yeah you right! Apple dont show off their prototype because... moreOf course Apple have prototypes, but they're not really a company who innovates components. If in future they decide to create a smartphone with custom spec, then that's arguably something else. In any case, oppo should be applauded for coming up with something so solid. I hope we see its implementation in smartphones in the near future.
