FromChinaWithLove, 28 Feb 2017I was talking about this problem a couple days ago here whe... moreSony's fingerprint scanner is THE BEST in the market and surely faster than an Iris Scanner of today. And i dont know what are you whining about but Z5 is the best design in the Z series, Its elevated edges stop the body from touching the surface from both sides to avoid scratches and the frosted glass DOES NOT ever gets fingerprints over it.
P.S. if you really want the fingerprint scanner to work on Z5 onwards, simply flash a generic rom from EU or AU as the hardware is still embedded.

AnonD-93439, 28 Feb 2017first their president now this, sux 2 b AmericanDoesn't matter. With a finger print scanner, it just makes it easier for our overbearing government to force us to unlock our phones for them. They can hand cuff you and unlock your phone with your bound hands, but try doing that with a typed password.

Many people don't use the fingerprint reader anyway. Not a big deal.

Me, 28 Feb 2017Fingerprint: less than 1 sec to unlock Eye scanner: turn... moreAll of those scanner and sensor in your phone are not to make you access your phone faster. It is there for added security. It shouldn't bother you how many seconds it takes to unlocked a phone if security is what you truly need. What differences does it make if you can unlocked your phone 2 or 3 seconds faster? Trying to save time? The most time you could save from unlocking your phone probably around 30 seconds per day. What exactly can you can do with that mere 30 seconds in a day? If you really want fast unlocking simply dont lock your phone, simple. Zero second without lock screen. I cant believe people really bother about how many seconds their phone unlocked.

gsmarena removed further statement of Don Mesa.
When pressed further, Don Mesa said that the
fingerprint sensor exclusion was Sony “consciously
deciding that we want to continue our business
here [in the U.S.], and [that’s] one of the conditions
for us to be able to do business.”

hey if at all that u said is going to be correct then sony leaves the mobile business easily without any doubt(unlike blackberry trying to come out with smartphones even though it's a fail) sony has some more business and a lot of image sensors now used in current smartphones are from sony and their playstation is most successfull in their history sony has legendary technology not people seeing their smartphone price tags preventing sony to down in the market if people wants to purchase exploding galaxy and non-quality or boring iphone then sony cannot do anything for that instead of their high quality technology in every aspect

I really don't like such lack of transparency. I also can't believe they couldn't renegotiate such contract with a carrier who doesn't want to sell Sony phones anymore. It would surely be cheaper. That said, I didn't know that they still sell Sony phones in America. Haven't seen one in a few years now.

Me, 28 Feb 2017But others do not use power as fingerprint.
That is the po... moreYes and no. Plenty of devices (all) unlock and turn-on the screen with the fingerprint reader alone, which is the exact same that Sony does (that is, despite being in the power button, it doesn't really work as a fp reader during a cold-boot).
However I do understand your point. I suppose that by HP you mean some patent they got in their acquisition of Palm.

This problem didn't just show up now, it is there ever since Z5!
If you knew that such a problem exist and there's no way that the users are able to use it without losing the warranty. Cause many people are just gonna say : flash other region's ROM/firmware.
Then why not go for something else like the Iris eyes scanner ( or maybe the Qualcomm's Ultrasonics fingerprint scanner)
