ecosystem of apple is bigger than google?
... moreWhat im saing is that apples eco system is so tight that if google wants to charge crazy prices and expect them to sell then they should look at apples eco system and make it loke that.
The ability to lock a person into a system with out an easy path to move out from yet make there stay enjoyable is the key.

Life imitating art.... dont bother following apples success at charging insane prices for their tech because andoid hasnt got the eco system to lock in the consumer and when they leave the apple eco system and move to android its plajn and simple that you have to leave things behind.

a premium chromebook is DOA. Nobody in their right mind would pay a premium price for a limited laptop experience (chrome OS). Under 200$ is the reason for chromebooks' success. Above that, not much.

Haha, good they should focus on android instead of that horrible, close-source OS (chrome OS). Instead of maintaining two seperate OSes , they should fuse them into one.
So when Android runs on a laptop it should change the environment into a desktop environment, and when on a phone or a keyboardless tablet, it should act like a touch based OS.
They should "steal" a page from micorsoft instead of maintaining two separate OSes. This kind of unity would also help app developers, knowing that their apps can in principle be used in laptops/productivity machines as well. Letting them add even more features and making their apps even more useful
That way Microsoft would finally be challenged , especially if we start getting professional software on android *and* software developers will gain value knowing that their software could in principle be used in all kinds of platforms.
Eventually consumers will win as they'll be able to buy products away from the wintel legacy situation running on ARM (much more efficient) and being in direct connection with their portable computer as well (their phone).
If Google had vision, like years ago, they would have done this ages ago. Chrome OS must die!

Don't know why Google launched the Pixel laptop. Perhaps to get other manufacturers like Samsung, Acer and Asus interested in making ChromeOS laptops too?

Google is never interested in hardware. To compete with Apple on hardware, Google needs to hire 50,000 more employees. They are not going to do that as people don't buy Google hardware at the same rate as people buy Apple stuff.

AnonD-39937, 01 Mar 2017Yeah, but Android is the main interest for them, Chrome OS ... moreSimple put, Google should just recognize its failure to make something bigger and pricier than a low budget plastic phone and then we all will just agree with it and move on to other brands more capable and successful.

Zenodroid, 01 Mar 2017I know, and now they ditch the pixels for nexus computers ;-)Yeah, but Android is the main interest for them, Chrome OS is a sideline to get the consumer laptop market and get closer to the idea of a laptop and desktop replacement phone.

Google Chromebook Pixel was made to motivate other companies to make Chromebooks and show to people an alternative to the Windows laptop, not make any profit, which it didn't make. But it succeded, the Chrome OS market getts bigger year by year and it was time to put all efforts on the Pixel phones, which are really made to take on the big dogs and make profit. 1st gen Pixel phones have a good breakthrough, mainly because of the perfect software. Many thought that the Google name will leave a bigger mark with its first they , but I think that 2st been Pixel phones will have a more refined hardware. Like a good design, stereo speakers, water resistance, better cameras with OIS and as it is expected from 2017's phones 6GB RAM, better battery life , better screen, smaller bezels, Snapdragon 835, Bluetooth 5.0 and Wi-Fi ad.

Good call. The product appealed to some tech enthusiasts but would never capture the bulk of consumers. Because they just love to alienate most people with the pricing. They seem to forget thay they're not Apple.
