28 February, 2011
With smartphones and especially Androids it's always about the future updates. And while some devices don't get as much attention from its makers as others, LG hopes to provide at least one next-version...

        I would stick to Apple iPhone. At least I am sure that I will get new iOS update and will be able to enjoy the new OS features which are not hardware dependent. I know Apple is a restrictive ecosystem but you are happy if you live within this ecosystem. Android is a fragmented system and Google has no control over who gets what and when(except the base system). Manufacturers are ruthless and want to sell only new phones and old customers are starved for software updates.

          The lg phones announced this MWC all has froyo. That's when all are releasing with gingerbread. So, a upgrade to 2.3 is not something big. They have to provide 2.4 also or it is useless.

            What I miss about Nokia is that they provide update to any of their devices. - From midrange to high-end handsets. Other manufacturers often leave their handsets with few updates. All they care about is releasing new phones. If there's a siginificant update, your handset is done. Better buy a new one to enjoy the full benefits of the software upgrade.

                    If they are really able to update their 2011 phones to Ice Cream, well, maybe I will reconsider to buy their phone. Optimus Black seems like a solid choice. Anyone else?

                      Is that one full version update (2.x -> 3.x) or one point-update (2.2 -> 2.3) ?

                      If it's the latter, which I suspect, then it's a MEGA FAIL.

                          aaaaaaa, 01 Mar 2011Did you hear that Samsung? Did you hear? Never again Samsun... moreIf Samsung would come with the same promise, it would have a greater impact in that they'd promise 2.4 Ice Cream with dual core support for Galaxy S II. I do hope it'll see it, as that could make quite a difference in performance.

                            A "one-level upgrade" doesn't sound too impressive to me. Sure, it's good that Optimus 2X and Optimus 3D will get Gingerbread (which Samsung Galaxy S II and others will have at launch or soon be updated to) in an eventual future, but Gingerbread still doesn't support dual core.

                            A promise to eventually get 2.4 Ice Cream - aka a "two-level upgrade" - (which actually DOES support dual core) would be far more interesting than saying they promise they'll play catch-up with the competition.

                                If the low end Optimus phones with only 600 MHz processors get Gingerbread, people would be pissed at all the other manufacturers that ditched their own 600 MHz phones.

                                    Sony Ericsson released ONE update for x10.

                                    Everyone complains.
                                    Samsung released 2.1, then 2.2 for their galaxy line. People still complaine.

                                    Now LG promises "at least 1" update.... that's really not very impressive. Also its only for their 2011 lineup. Sorry 2010!
