Hi,
I own the mi5s Plus.
I don't like the design of my phone to be altered by a tempered glass, unless it covers all the surface, which is something that doesn't exist because of the rounded edges of the mi5s Plus.
So I use it without any screen protection since about 3 weeks. I do take care of it, but not in a paranoid way.
After 3 weeks, whatever angle I look at it, I am unable to detect any scratch, even the tiniest one.

Have you even read the review of Mi5s at GSMArena that they found scratches on their unit front glass while using and not able to confirm if the front glass is power by Gorilla Glass 4 like the original Mi5. Plus Mi5 is a fantastic phone unless u r one who sits on your phone.

Even in their mid-rangers, redmi line, they improved that wildly.
The redmi note 3 and 3 pro had bas build quality, whilst the redmi note 4 and 4x had great build quality.

Xiaomi have pleny of support.
Software wisethey get updates like any othr phone maybe better. I have old Redmi 2 that is updated to MIUI 8.2
Hardware wise ... go buyit from a storeofficialy and you will be covered.
For SD card you can buy tge Redmiseries witch has this option for alltheyr models! The MI series doesn't have SD expansion as you can buy them with internal storage of uo to 256gb.

Still this mobile is getting latest MIUI 8.1.2 (With latest security patch) price of Redmi 1s was around 90$ . No other OEM will support their 90$ mobile but Xiaomi is doing that.

Even mi3 got android m and is going to get Miui 9 still works as good as day one. Yes I did a factory reset year back but it's still fast and fluid
