Even though they are promoting it as a home console, it doesn't seem like it's its strong point. Other than the battery life and the size, it could be pretty good as a portable machine with the added benefit of playing on the big screen when you feel like it.

If not, it could still be worth it for Nintendo's first party games alone once it gets a price drop.

But who knows, maybe it will sell like crazy.

If 2 different cpus use a53 cores, you don't say that they're the same. It's a custom made gpu which is much more powerful than tegra x1. Regular mobile gpus couldn't run any demanding games, but this one can.

Anonymous, 04 Mar 2017It's not tegra x1. Stop trying to sound smart.Wikipedia says clearly "Tegra X1", it's not a fantasy of mine, it's REALITY, they may say custom something , but it's just a gimmick to sound better :

Yes, a cave where you pay monthly electricity bills for an underpowered device. Geez, aquariums? Next, it's going to get interferences from the USB-C cable? Since a USB 3.x HDD can do interferences somehow (or Nintendo told us secretly that HDDs are connected to the NSA and they send them our history, the contents of the drive, what we are doing..)

Nintendo Switch wants to sale when we have phones on the handheld side and Laptop/PC/PS4/PS4 Pro/One/One S on the other side? It's 2017 and the specs are: 6.2" 720p 237 ppi screen (wtf really?, and they put a gimmick like up to 1080p docked? This is a PC or a handheld console? because a handheld console should be used handheld, if someone wants a "docked" device they can buy a PC); the SOC is the 2015 Tegra X1 on 20nm(when nowadays even midrange chips are made on 14nm), 4xA57 2GHz cores (exactly like Snapdragon 810, very "modern" when phones have 2 generations newer cores), a GPU based on Maxwell architecture (0-10% faster than Snapdragon 820, but slower than the upcoming Snapdragon 835), maybe 4GB of RAM(on the Tegra page on Wikipedia it says 4GB?) 32GB storage , 4310mAh battery with "2.5-6h battery life", but on a decent game, like The "Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" it will have nothing more than 3 hours, so the real battery life is about 2.5-3h. If we compare this device with a 2016-2017 flagship :the screen is sub-par, the performance is largely similar with Snapdragon 821, the RAM, storage and gaming battery life can be better on some phones. So why should we give 300$ for this gaming only device when we can buy a phone which can do much more or a Laptop/PC/PS4/PS4 Pro/One/One S which has a lot more performance?

The Switch is half console and half mobile gaming platform. I'm thinking of getting one just for the novelty but honestly because I am so used to doing everything on my phone including gaming, I just think the machine would collect dust under my TV. Nintendo has done itself a big favour by launching Mario on iOS and android.

Aquarium? Uhm, something fishy going on here!

Are they saying do not put your Switch IN with the fish, or nearby? What in an aquarium generates radio interference? The pimp? (Asks Inspector Clouseau.)

AnonD-513998, 04 Mar 2017The Switch doesn't have a predecessor though. "I mean you... moreThese days most games are multiplatform. Porting a game to an additional system doesn't cost all that much, as long as there is an audience for it and there are no big extra headaches associated with porting to the system (like redoing half your game because there's not enough memory or the CPU is not fast enough).

As for additional development costs of exclusive games, no one is forcing you to push the hardware to the limits. You can keep your games simple and focus on easy stuff like increasing IQ. It could actually make development cheaper if you follow that route, like plenty of developers have done on PS4, XB1 and PC.

Releasing a system that can't run current multiplatform games due to hardware limitations pretty much guarantees that most developers will ignore the system unless it becomes a sales juggernaut (very unlikely if the games aren't there).

It would be great if they could convince 3DS developers to start developing for the Switch.

Why? We already have 2 consoles for graphics, why release a third for that very same market that's already dominated by Sony and Microsoft? Would be a bad move. Would just cost more and the development of games would be more expensive as well.
