I'm just feeling weird while reading all comments here.
Why all you people don't mind your own business instead of battling the company that didn't even have anything to do with your life?
Now Samsung and Android are leading, then so what? If those company are going bankrupt, you just can buy another available devices that suits you. Just as simple as it is and you don't need to argue.
C'mon people what are you looking for huh?
Do you want to incite other people's thoughts? Or are you one of their sales and marketing team?

Its obvious that android is highly sorted after in that aspect, and to maintain competitiveness that they have to churn out handsets at a accelerated time frame. There are so much hardware innovation going on with android... Dual core processor, 3D lens, 1080P recording etc etc. If you deem these to be no different from the androids in 2010, i suggest you to use a phone dated 1990. Not only are they cheap, they are sufficiently good enough for you.
If you see that as an disadvantage, then you can use products that are unpopular, for their launch are so slow and rare.

Claudia, 09 Mar 2011If your Nokia why on earth would you join with Android? if ... moreThis is the most widespread fallacy there is. Fragmentation is not a problem on Android on most of ways (almost all) it is portrayed. Bad practices are, but it's not an intrinsic characteristic of the system.
Different hardware: that's a great thing since there is no "one size fits all" approach. I can't take anyone who says otherwise seriously. That doesn't mean Apple is wrong doing it, obviously. Actually, considering they are also a hardware manufacturer, they are doing it brilliantly. But providing manufacturers with different goals with a good OS is good to fulfill all needs. Just look at what happened to the PC industry with Windows, and look to the pre-x86 era. Even with the commoditization of hardware, we have plenty of choices today... small form, notebooks, netbooks, fashion and industrial designs... countless choices. No wonder we see more Android smartphones being sold than iOS now. Not everyone needs an iPhone, or even desires one. The other problem concerns app testing and debugging, but this is a problem only on demanding apps. Just look at the problems Angry Birds et al have had. This is a hardware problem. It's normal because it comes with differentiation (which is desired, look at previous argument): just look at the PC industry, where something similar happens.
On the software side: Android is designed to pretty much take care of it. You can't, however, trust a developer that designs for this kind of environment using px units instead of dips. All my apps work just fine, be it an Xperia, Desire, Galaxy 5, S, SII, Droid, Milestone, Nexus S and even pre-3.0 Tablets (I need to improve them with this new API, btw). Point is, there are badly designed apps everywhere, and it just seems like a "one more layer" of design practices to keep in mind. This used to be a problem, yes, but right now good apps are already appearing on Android, and developers are slowly changing their "desktop design" mentality. Excluding the hardware debugging issue (point one, above), the emulator is able do reproduce the software issue very, very well. Actually, Android leads the field of device emulation (slow speeds are hardware problems, see above again).
On the software+hardware side: this concerns manufacturers, and this is the only "fragmentation" problem on Android, in my opinion. Truth be told, this is planned obsolescence with a new twist. If there is one reason why this happens, is because manufacturers want to sell new phones, not update old ones. Most of them don't understand the value of good hardware and support in an almost commoditized market:

This is a common misconception. Be it WP7 or Android, Nokia gave up the software battle and now is a pure hardware maker. When you're the best in your business, you _are_ going to succeed, doesn't matter if it's Android or WP7. There are examples of this in the industry: SoHo routers is just one that pops in my mind.
This is more difficult as it is up to the customer to separate the wheat from the chaff. But give some time, Android is too new yet, and only now is maturing.
What I see is a company that was too afraid to join the battle, and wanted to reign in a feud that nobody cares about (yet, at least). Put Nokia hardware on Android and I would be one myself that would buy it. Nokia's hardware are arguably the best in business, and they would rock on Android, but I'm now willing to exchange Android+Nexus S for WP 7+Nokia. Not at all. All things equal, fierce competition improves the market. It's one "plus" that benefits customers.
Nokia was taken over by Microsoft $1 billion.

They only surveyed people over 13, I'm guessing that was the mental age as well, simply because the majority of people using iPhones seem to be under 13 :P

If your Nokia why on earth would you join with Android? if you are an Android handset maker you have to be pumping out handsets it would appear every other week and you are only as good as your last handset. which if we were reading the comments on Htc in these forums they are coming to end all because they didnt include Dual core into there last batch of phones. At the moment yes Android phones are growing at a massive rate but it is also very unstable the old word called fragmentation will spring to mind. The fact that Nokia is a handset and software maker and to join Android just makes you one of the many. Yep i have to agree that so far WM7 has not been a stellar peformer but i remember buying and Android phone when nobody of the genaral public even knew what it was. I for one am looking forward to see what the Nokia microsoft partnership will do

This craze will come to Indian market also. But it will take time. I think Nokia must go for a change now, otherwise they will be ruled out from the market. Nokia is a leader in India only due to low price segment models. Otherwise LG or Samsung is having much better product than them.

But they have still to make it big in Smartphones in terms of volumes. With there tie up with Microsoft we may soon see some good news for window 7 phones sales.

I agree, Google's Android is HUGE, and it's getting bigger. But as others have pointed out, this is a US survey, so it's not an accurate global representation, in South Africa, Nokia is the most popular by far...

Android OS is used by so many manufacturers and it has become the leader, how good is that. The BB and the Apple is only OS with a single phone mfr, and still they have evolved and created a revolution with their technology, Others all are copycats Beat It ! And Android should shut there mouth and stop boasting abt themselves.
