It is also malleable which allows manufacturers to be adventurous in their design. As much as metal helps in dissipating heat from the phone internal, with the overheating processors it can also mean the handset itself gets too hot to touch. Metal devices can heat up to a point they are uncomfortable to hold.

Many current metal devices are anodised and available in a range of colours and while they do look good, they display blemishes when the untreated metal is exposed. Glass is also a relevant alternative. Cornings Gorilla Glass has been used for over 3 billion smartphones. As for manufacturer perspective, glass has one key advantage; it can be produced in massive scale, allowing OEMs to reduce the cost of producing a smartphone.

First 2 renders look like mi5 which is the best looking xiaomi phone so far. If this is the mi6 with solid frame and improved camera over the 5 it is a winner.

Anonymous, 18 Mar 2017But shiny glass or ceramic is also more scratch resistant, ... moreglass is scratch resistant(as much as high quality aluminium in normal usage, ok if you want to cut apples on phone glass is better) and "more beautiful"(and fingerprint magnet), but aluminium is more durable and shaterproof(that's the BIG difference)...if you want to use your phone without case aluminium is better , if you want to put a case on it, even plastic can be ok because you feel the case.

Although raw aluminum is not premium, it polishing processes makes aluminum to get premium feel. Polishing steps very with each manufacturer. May be Xiaomi takes little polishing steps that it looks like plastic. But other manufacturers take large number of polishing steps so that their aluminum frame looks gorgeous and not like cheap plastic feel. Aluminum is hard, have high tensile strength and light, ideal for phones. Ceramic is hard but fragile and heavy and it is more similar to glass than metal. It will shatter when drop. If used in frame, it will be a disaster when the phone drops. Ceramic is also not a premium material - similar price per gram as aluminium.

It can be as cheap as $0.50 per can. Wrap that around the phone. Then, they coat it with super thick paint job that make it feel like plastic. That is the kind of smartphone you want?

The top variant would probably be around the same price, but that's okay since only enthusiasts or fans are likely to go for that.

I say "No" to phones mad... moreBut shiny glass or ceramic is also more scratch resistant, as well as looking more beautiful to some. So if you use a case or bumper on your phone, this is probably the better material because soft aluminum can scratch even in a case just from the dust between case and body. Glass is also the material used in the most beautiful phone ever made, the iPhone 4
