I don't understand your complaint, it was mentioned this is just being done as a charitable special edition. Its not like they held off making this until everyone bought the regular version and then released it just to spite them.

Even that mere 1-2% can amount to a huge sum of money. 2% from their $9 billion profit on sales can make $180M. Though, I doubt they released the red iphone as many as the regular ones. So, you can expect any number within that range or lower which is still a lot.
