8K is the future. By 2020 this display resolution will be common, and the hardware that supports it will be common too and cheap!

Anonymous, 24 Mar 2017Seriously? 5k for a monitor. Even my pc master race setup c... moreQuality costs and you can't get a good monitor for cheap. My setup has cost me more than 5k (1,5k for audio, 850 euros for a Dell U3415W and rest for the actual PC-components). I'd love to buy this monitor, but I'm done with 60 Hz -panels for good. And my next monitor has to be bigger than 34".

[deleted post]Yep, Macs are generally used for photo-editing, video-editing and design. That's why Mac user often have better monitors.

Mac user are also a bit wealthier, on the whole, and pay more attention to design. Which clearly shows in the OS's user interface.

AnonD-655396, 24 Mar 2017So, 4320 is 16 times greater than 1080...where did you go t... moreResolution, simply means total pixel count of the generated picture (like in cameras).

'Horizontal resolution' and 'vertical resolution' are basically pixel counts along their named axes. Their product is the total pixel count (resolution).

The guy below just explained it in more detail, though.

You are wrong my friend. Since the TV exist 720p and 1080p haven't been the standard...480p was the main resolutions used on most CRT tubes. 640x480 was mainly used on CRT TVS and CRT monitors. Back then 1MB and 2MB video cards were the in thing. These video cards didn't need fans like the ones today. I have been in the computing field for more than 20 years. I know a thing or two about nostalgia in the technology sector.

AnonD-655396, 24 Mar 2017So, 4320 is 16 times greater than 1080...where did you go t... moreWhat do you define as resolution, if not the number of pixels in the display?
The ability to resolve something is known as resolution. A higher number of pixels result in a higher resolution.

                                Think of it this way...
There's a square box of an edge of 2 cm.
That gives it a total volume of 8 cm3.
Let's take another square box of an edge of 4 cm.
It's total resolved volume comes up to be 64 cm3.

I raised the edge from 2 cm to 4 cm, and the volume shot up from 8 cm3 to 64 cm3.
                                Why? :)

It's kind of similar with displays, except we're talking about areas instead of volumes.. similar concept applies. Just think that, for every increase in a vertical pixel, a huge number of pixels end up increasing due to a high horizontal resolution..

AnonD-655396, 24 Mar 2017So, 4320 is 16 times greater than 1080...where did you go t... morePer SQUARE UNIT OF AREA the monitor in this article has 16 times as many pixels as a standard monitor with a 1920 x 1080 resolution.

                                      7680 x 4320 = 33177600
                                      1920 x 1080 = 2073600

Or more rather obviously, 4x in each direction = 16x resolution per square unit of area.
