Also whats can improve screen quality to eliminating brightening screen up at direct sun and save a lot battery, to have better true black and other colors at direct sun, also having better screen viewing angles because nowdays sun polarization layers not much good and even Samsung says will change their sun polarizing layer. It's good time to choose and pick up Nokia ClearBlack Display (CBD) sun polarizing technology, this will help for Super AMOLED Plus, and also for LCD's screens (only Lumia 710 LCD had this) a lot to saving battery by not brightening up screen at direct sun, better viewing angles, true black color at direct sun. Look how much time even today unbeatable first place all time and high points have Nokia 808 pureview Sun light ratio is 4.698 points with ClearBlack Display (CBD) polariziation direct sun light technology. Even Samsung galaxy S7 sunlight ratio with 4.376 points can't beat Nokia 808 with ClearBlack Display (CBD) polarizing technology. With this technology today we would save much battery having even better results and screen colors reproduction at direct sun expecialy black color quality. Wake up and license it from Nokia.

I think easier is spell and explain screen technology by screen technology name alphabet:
LED: Light - emitting diode. For LED-backlighted displays. LED-backlit LCD is a flat panel display which uses LED backlighting instead of the cold cathode fluorescent (CCFL) backlighting used by most other LCDs. Three types of LED may be used: Edge-lit LEDs, LED backlighting (full array), Dynamic local dimming backlight an example of an LED-backlit TFT TN LCD (also referred as TFT LCD).
    OLED: organic light-emitting diode.
    AMOLED: active-matrix organic light-emitting diode.
Super AMOLED According to Samsung, Super reflects one-fifth as much sunlight as the first generation AMOLED. The display technology itself is not changed.
Super AMOLED Plus: Super AMOLED Plus, first introduced with the Samsung Galaxy S II and Samsung Droid Charge smartphones, is a branding from Samsung where the PenTile RGBG pixel matrix (2 subpixels) used in Super AMOLED displays has been replaced with a traditional RGB RGB (3 subpixels) arrangement typically used in LCDs. This variant of AMOLED is brighter and therefore more energy efficient than Super AMOLED displays and produces a sharper, less grainy image because of the increased number of subpixels. In comparison to AMOLED and Super AMOLED displays, they are even more energy efficient and brighter.
TN: Twisted nematic displays contain liquid crystals that twist and untwist at varying degrees to allow light to pass through.
TFT: thin-film-transistor liquid-crystal display (TFT LCD).
IPS: (In-plane switching) is a screen technology for liquid crystal displays (LCDs).
    LCD: liquid-crystal display.
IPS-NEO: Most LCDs manufactured by JDI use the In-Plane-Switching concept, as do many of its competitors. JDI has developed an improvement for darker black pixels (true-black appearance), called "IPS-NEO", which reduces the light shining through from the backlighting.
CLED: Crystal LED ( At CES 2017 Sony showcased the CLEDIS ™ (Crystal LED Integrated Structure) This technology makes use of pixels mounted on each segment RGB of the display, such that each pixel is illuminated independently. It's an latest improved LCD's technology.

Anonymous, 26 Mar 2017"The LED is another type of LCD". No. They are different ca... moreLED display refers to LED backlit LCD displays. They still use the crystal filteration. However, by using multiple LEDs as backlight, you avoid brightness degradation at corners compared to centre. It looks more even as a result.

Most LCD panels have LED backlight nowadays, and hence the moniker doesn't work that well nowadays. But back when LED TVs first came along, most TVs had a single bulb as backlight.

The displays you are referring to are called OLED. They have LEDs to display colors, and not as backlight.

"The LED is another type of LCD". No. They are different categories. LEDs emits light in the desired color. LCDs filters white light for the desired color.

Good day Gsmarena team. When reviewing screens would be nice if you also add testing screens white color point. Because now is only how is good contrast means is how is good black on LCD, because we know that Amoled is turning pixel off and is no reason to test contrast on amoled. So but how good is screens white color point in Amoled and also LCD is also important. But Amoled have more problams on it. Screens white color point says how good is quality of screen subpixels-pixels, correct colors balance, colors calibration, colors reproduction. Also depends on eyes healty if sreen white point is bluish, you can get some serious eyes disease. Here all about too much blue effect screen more: http://www.allaboutvision.com/cvs/blue-light.htm also important for skin color reproduction in photography, cinema, reading. If phone sreen is not good at white screen point so you will have bad sreen viewing experience and also serious eyes issues. Some youtube tech reviewers like example tech nerd Erica Griffin show great testing on screens white point. If you want know more about phones screens white point review you should watch shes review. And its not advertisement. It's also important to make more popular this screens testing because it's important to all users. And thinking Gsmarena like old tech proffesionals should also join in this new good profesional testing. And manufacturers will keep more attention on this screens issues way. Thanks for all whose are tech nerds and entusiasts and making phones tech better. Because for them really care it. And not only becauce for money. Some are people with tech whose want look coolier and more smart and some are serious tech nerds whose can't heal from it and not because dependence of it. Because it brings new magical things and posibilities to learn in to life. Nowdays is not so much when was past. Nowdays is more making pop trend. But is not bad, because is bring more possibilities for all. But not much know what is innovation today? Only better processor every year? Better cameras?. So looks like increasing tech quality now more and some small new possibilities. This project somewhere goes forward new or stops here. And we will see extinguishing fashion. What you think if you are old tech geek? Does it is tech new innovations end? And just will looks only more pop trend fashion?

Hi GSM, just to say that this Q&A page is a really good idea. I usually read the comments after reading the review and (trolls apart) folk ask questions which are never replied to by the author. This does that so thank you and I hope it's going to be a permanent feature. Love your site BTW, THE 'go to' tech site.

where can we post this questions
