Blimey! Motorola Milestone 2.2 Froyo update is out

db, 01 Apr 2011After long wait .... disappointing update..Phone has becom ... moreTo all of the people on here that have upgraded your MIlestone (or similar) to 2.2.1 - please perform a "Factory Reset" and you will see a huge improvement.
I have completed the upgrade and it was so slow, but after doing the reset, it is like a new phone faster than before and a lot better at most of the things it already did very well. Just remember to note down what app's you already have installed that you will need to download from the market again.

Wow - a few months down the line and my phone is unusable. I've tried full resets, fresh SD cards, everything. Currently my problems include:
-crashes and resets on phone calls
-crashes and resets on dialling
-crashes and resets on opening applications (any and all, have tried removing custom launchers, unneccessary applications etc, no luck)
-unresponsive for 1-2 minutes, extreme patience or removing the battery the only solution
-loss of sanity
I've lost count of the times I've had to stop myself smashing it against the nearest wall. If left unused for a little a while you can guarantee 30-40 seconds use with no problems. I will be switching to cyanogenmod 7 as soon a I can confirm this will be possible for my phone.

It did not start immediately after I upgraded to 2.2 (which was late April), and I never faced this on 2.0 & 2.1. The dialler application has also become pretty slow overtime. Not sure if the application has gone nuts completely.

We have 2 milestone. Before and after the updates, we have persistent "fast forward voice" noise problem. What I mean is while you are on the phone, you get very loud garbage that sounds like if you were playing a tape recorder on fast forward.
It was doing it on 2.1 and now is worst on 2.2
Both phones were sent to service twice, and they still have not fixed the problem.
Anyone having this kind of problem.
We are on Telus in Montreal. Telus told us it could be a network problem, but the problem is doing it anywhere.I was in Ohio, and it was also doing it.

After the upgrade, my cellphone doesnt recognize 3G in 850 UMTS, only works in EDGE. I been researching in the web and it seems to be a very common issue. I dont know what to do now. I check all my network configuration (APN), and everithings fine, but i dont have 3G. :(

Me too , updated the India version of milestone to android 2.2.1 last week from the moto software update site. milestone had become too slow after upgrade and camera was not working , i had restarted it several times hoping that it would get faster, but no luck. at last i did the factory reset of the phone after saving all the contacts in .vcf and it worked like a rocket. New widgets & the phone is super smooth now.

'Upgraded' yesterday.
1) I agree; it seems slower than the previous release.
2) There dones't appear to be a way to get rid of the slide-to-unlock feature
3) Turning the volume all the way down no-longer completely silences the phone; it just puts it to vibrate.
4) The promise of being able to install to the SD card has been fruitless for me; not even one of the apps I have on my phone allow you to transfer them to the SD card and after adding the flash app I've got a permanent warning saying my phone's full :-/

For those having problem with the sluggishness I would advice to have it updated to froyo at a moto service centre mine is working like a charm now much better than before the update so much faster. I notice with the upgrade sound quality have improve, web browsing is faster, vids on utube looks way better so sharp kinda hi-def looking, I can view more vids on the web. I can say I was like the first to purchase the phone and was waiting for so long for the upgrade and was thinking of selling it coz I was too tired of waiting, finally the upgrade came and I really appreciate it and they promise upgrade to froyo anyway but nevertheless thank you moto for the upgrade.

i have Motorola milestone with android 2.1 update1 i was waiting for android 2.2 in my milestone and finally its here now. i have update 10 days back got update from moto to my FB.
Finally it is here performace i excellent and battery life has increase with plus of 5 Hrs on voice.

This is a joke. Motorola want people to buy their new milestone, because this update sucks monkey balls, worst update ever! Everything is slower and the phone randomly resets itself!

after i updated it froyo, it's keeps restarting on it's own. I have tried to even shut down apps using advanced task killer, they are still on in the background.... battery life has also reduced significantly.. need help
