You know that it was a mistake, right?
"Update [March 27, 2017]: We just received confirmation from a T-Mobile rep and it seems they mistakenly updated the HTC One M8 page with the mention of Android 7.0 Nougat update being rolled out for it. T-Mobile will have it corrected soon. So it’s not happening, phew!"

mixa, 27 Mar 2017Interesting, this is the first phone with SD801 to get Noug... moreI don't know where this line of thinking came from in the first place There's nothing in the Android Nougat Compliance documentation that says it won't run on armv7-a. It's really not as hard as people have made it out to be, in fact, it's much simpler considering you don't have to incorporate the armv8-a libraries into your build. Also, ALL armv8-a instructions are perfectly capable of running on 32-bit armv7-a hardware/libraries with simple legacy compliance. You'll miss some 64-bit perks, but the average consumer won't miss anything.
Google has never said you can't put any version of Android on any architecture. In fact, it's open source nature prevents such limitations. However, if Google decided to get froggy with their licensing and actually prohibited Nougat on 32-bit SoC's (which they didn't), then HTC/T-Mobile would not be able to incorporate Google Play Services into their Nougat builds, and they clearly did incorporate Google Play Services, so yeah. I have no clue where the idea that "Nougat won't/can't run on 32-bit/armv7-a" came from, because it wasn't from Google.
Maybe it was Samsung (or LG, or ZTE, or Huawei, etc.) trying to seed an excuse for not updating older devices so that consumers go buy their newer ones.
Because, again, it wasn't Google.

Thank you HTC for showing other manufacturers how to update devices, it's about time a company broke the 2 year barrier that usually applies to software updates. And we already knew Snapdragon 801 supports nougat, it's been ported to many devices already so official support is limited by companies like Samsung or google who just want more money, even apple who is always over pricing things at least supports devices up to 4 years, android could easily follow suite. let's hope this starts a new trend

Whaaaat?! Snapdragon 801 supports Nougat?! If the One (M8) can get it, so must the LG G3, Xperia Z2 and the Galaxy S5.

How is it possible that a carrier can procure the Nougat update. From which source did this emanate. As I understood from HTC,they have to develop the source codes for their phone updates from google. Shame on you HTC for not giving the unlocked M8 the Nougat.

I thought Nougat is not compatible with s801 chipset? So it is possible the other 801 devices will receive the update as well?

Interesting, this is the first phone with SD801 to get Nougat officially... So it was possible after all to somehow bypass Google.

Samsung Alpha, Samsung's premium answer to Iphone at that time, launched 5 months later than M8 , did not even get Marshmellow. It got only Lolipop after 12 months. Only 12 month support !
