Anonymous, 30 Mar 2017They're not, the screens are getting bigger, but the phones... moreThis is why Galaxy X needs to be released sooner than being delayed again another year. O thought Samsung would announce it back in 2015, 2016, and 2017 CES and they still haven't.
Foldable screens that can be folded multiple times like a sheet of paper will create smaller footprints that can be expanded to bigger screens.

The one disadvantage of removing the physical home button is accidentally pressing the home button below the keyboard's space bar. But Samsung should have of rid of the home button years ago like the other Android OEM's did by 2011.
In typical Samsung / Apple copycat fashion, they have a capacitive button with tactile feedback. More moving parts to wear out and drain battery life. Could have just been simple like any other on-screen home button.
2017 is a tick year for Samsung. The s model refinements with 7nm SoCs come next year with the S9. For iPhones, the s models are the way to go. They are the stronger twin with less issues internally after a year of refining that same design shell.
So odd numbered years for Apple and even numbered years for Samsung. Tick tock, this is how they rock...
2017 - iPhone 7s/Edition
2018 - Galaxy S9
Don't worry, folks. The S9 will rehash this S8 design but improved it more internally.

Dreyfus, 29 Mar 2017reality is what you said? well I cant blame you since you h... moreHaha, we'll see about it.
Same was said about S6, that people prefer modern looks over function. Guess what happened, it sold worse than S5 after all was said and done.
The majority of people don't fall for gimmicks. If you're working on phone sales you should know that, if not you're not doing your job well or you're not observant enough...

AnonD-5197, 29 Mar 2017Phones have been gradually gettimg bigger and bigger.... if... moreThey're not, the screens are getting bigger, but the phones themselves are pretty much stuck between 150-160mm in height for years.
People demand bigger screens even at the cost of slightly bigger devices. But they also want smaller devices. Don't be surprised the best selling phone in the market is actually less than 140mm in height.
In fact if there was anyone to show up with a 130mm phone with a giant screen (I don't know if it's possible), it would certainly sell better than any other.
People looove small devices, but love big screens more. So they're fighting each other, big screens win (slightly) but even them have a limit (right about 160mm).

Dreyfus, 29 Mar 2017I can assure you millions of phones that will be sold soone... moreI already know it. The trends are formed by specific things. There would be a first wave of incredible sales. This would be fanboys and people easily amused. By the end of the year though it will have less sales than S7.
I'm working w phones for 10 years now, watching trends. Trust me, this phone will have worse sales than S7 by next year, because the gimmicks will have died down by then and the real problems (low battery, relatimely low performance) would crop up.
Reality will slap you in the face. Only a minority of people are impressed by gimmicks.

Edge screen is a disaster ,my girlfriend droped hear s7 edge in official premium case only ones and screen cracked as fuck she got insurance on phone but its still cost 80 euros +.
So yea guys its fancy and everything but its not user friendly solution. Edge screen= fucked up screen + screen protector cant stay on it .
another problem across all phones with GG5 that GG5 is worser than GG4 on scratch resistance:

Tann Hauser, 29 Mar 2017Yep, MWC judging said so, if this was even there XZ Prem wo... moreit does look pretty gorgeous though. But yeah I do agree there is nothing new outside of that except for Samsungs new partnership with AKG which is actually pretty huge ever since they acquired harman kardon it might actually mean great audio quality. AKG is a renown brand among audiophiles so they made a good move.
Honestly, still worried about sony. S8 might sell like hot cakes because of its new sexy design. put it next to the s7 and itmakes the s7 look antique with them small bezels. Sony needs to reduce its bezel size.
and I hope sony puts on their innovation engine at IFA

5,8 inch and people loving it... what a sick world!
perfect screensize for smartphone that should fit in a pocket and still be useful is somewere between 4 and 5 inch - IMHO
or maybe i am just getting old and out dated... with 33 years. well, we all knew that that would happen sooner or later.
good luck samsung - but you are not building phones for me.
btw
i hate when they sell the topdog version just in korea and china. yet another reason not to buy the phone. but other producers act as this as well...

Ok, well, I have mixed feelings about the newly announced devices.
Cons:
1) Too big. Like way too big.
2) That fingerprint placement. Died of laughter when one review channel said ''Get ready for a lot of smudges on the camera!''
3) Same back design. Samsung, seriously, think of something new for your best flagship phone yet.
4) Battery capacities too low. I don't have to explain anything here and don't try to say ''but the screen is this and that and the processor is this and that, so the battery will be fine!'', it won't work.
5) Bixby is useless and will never rise. Should've stuck with Google Assistant and help improve it.
6) On-screen buttons are ugly.
7) The ''edge'' screen is a gimmick, and so is the iris scanning feature.
8) Too damn expensive.
Pros:
1) Liking the new UI and the way the app drawer opens.
2) The front looks gorgeous with that screen, like the G6.
So, yeah. lol
