Galaxy S8's facial recognition system is easily fooled by a photo

This has been a recurring problem for such authentication methods, so it's not surprising.

Seems like the fingerprint scanner is on the wrong side of the camera. There are more right handed people than left handed and if right handed people hold the phone in the their left hand while say typing with their right hand then the index finger on the left hand will be the one used to unlock and will naturally position itself on the left side of the camera as viewed from the back when the phone is held with the back facing away.

I just don't understand why the finger scanner is not under the camera. The user will always put his finger on the camera first. The phone is almost perfect, except the finger print location, it's just stupid there.

I will stick to the password of 14 alphanumeric to unlock the phone. And wipe away the glass screen with the tissue paper or cloth after unlock to clear away traces of finger prints on screen. This is what I call, IMHO, security with own responsibility. It is your phone, your responsibility to secure it wisely. Also change the 14 alphanumeric at regular intervals away from public eyes and cameras.

The phone is not to blame, Android really needs some polishing with it. Microsoft has done better indeed. But you've got to understand they're just alternatives to PIN unlock, they were never meant to be bullet-proof. Most stand alone scanners can be fooled with a "dead" silicone-made finger so...

It could also use a system where if IR fails it goes to backup with photo.

Iris scan is likely the most secure one available for phones. But if Microsoft could get their realsense tech from windows hello small enough for a phone that would be even more secure. Independent tests showed that even identical twins couldn't beat it.

I don't see how Samsung would add this feature to galaxy S8 when they already have other security features. Samsung did say that the facial recognition system is not the most secure system, but it rather seems like a ludicrous and suspicious attempt made by Samsung.
