Netflix’s rating system gets a much-needed update

06 April 2017
Netflix's somewhat confusing star-rating system is often misunderstood. This is why Netflix is changing the way you rate movies and shows.

Does Netflix give an option to remove a history (a list) of movies that we watched or just opened, or it is still kept forever???

this is the stupidest thing they've changed so far. for every good idea they have, they have 10 bad ones.
how hard is it to average ratings? just show me the avg. rating based on reviews. don't personalize it, don't tell me how much you think i'll like it. companies love to overthink.

Really GSMArena? 5 stars were confusing? Well, do not ever visit IMDB. They got 10 stars there!!!

mikey18, 06 Apr 2017I liked the star rating. Say I rated 3 stars for a movie, I... moreYou said it, Mikey. The execs at Netflix are a bunch of imbeciles, and this is going backfire on them. As you said, anything less than 4-star-worthy entertainment will likely get a thumbs down. How this can possibly be a "smarter" way of recommending content? It boggles the mind. It certainly won't help the Amy Schumers of the world

But hey, at least GSMarena approves. I mean, they must be horribly confused when trying to choose a nice restaurant, hotel or resort destination. Can you imagine the conversation when they travel to trade shows?

"This hotel has a 4 out of 5-star rating, Gus. What the hell does that mean? WHY IS THIS SO CONFUSING?!"

I like how GSMarena thinks a 1 to 5 star-rating system is complicated, lol.

Umm, GSMarena... have you ever seen your battery rating system? LMAO!

I liked the star rating. Say I rated 3 stars for a movie, I wasn't crazy about it, but it was worth a watch. But with this now, I would give it a thumbs down instead of thumbs up. So now, they won't recommend those kinds of movies I watched, even if I liked the genre? I don't see this doing well, don't fix something that ain't broke. Those saying they never understood the star rating.....the description for each star is right there whenever you rate a movie.

lol, you mean like Iron Fist was so psss poor they couldn't accept the results. so now you may think it is worth the pun if it is just "bad" rather than the rating below "sub-par". lol.
