Weekly poll results: Galaxy  S8 pre-orders start off strong, review awaited impatiently

09 April 2017
Some are holding back, waiting for the reviews to come out - a solid strategy, seeing how the S8 won't ship until late April.

        Just compare S7E to S8: http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=7945&idPhone2=8161

This is the smallest difference between generations ever !

Just buy S7 Edge, get 98% of the same stuff, get better battery and pay half the money. That's the only way for the rule of the market to work, else it caves into monopolies and cartels.

I'll stick with my S7 for now, but the S8 does look like a very, very, VERY incredible device!
I checked it out at my local Samsung retail store, and it's just beautiful and comfortable to hold. Seriously.

Also, the phone isn't too big. I compared it with my S7, and it still felt very comfortable and easy to use and hold. Overall, excellent device!

But you are right, eventually the market prevails. Which is why despite the hard push S8 gets and the strong sales it will have because of it, eventually it will fail. It will never sell more than S4 (probably the best S phone ever) and probably not even top S7.

By posting here the other side of the arguments I help a handful of people to be more resistant to marketing. It won't make any consequential difference in the big picture (as tech websites don't anyhow), but it may well save some people from buying a phone they don't need.

They do not sacrifice clarity (Samsung does by using pentile that makes her screen unusable for VR, despite -supposededly- also pushing VR). They actually upgrade performance (last year's performance champ was oneplus 3T) *and* battery life (for example Mi Mix despite the gargantuan display had almost 100 hours according to GSMarena test), you know things that *matter*.

S8 is a phone with its pros and cons that is only being sold in twice the price of those phones because Samsung is a giant company and needs greater margins to feed its ever expanding bottom line.

That should not concern average consumers, let the rule of the market prevail and avoid Samsung flagships, teach them a lesson that they should be more efficient or more weary of what they should accentuate to their next phone (honestly making your phone taller is a gimmick, I mean kill bezels all you like, but at least let your phone become smaller not bigger because of it)

S8 is merely taller and since there is no content to use that, that's irrelevant. You have quality thick bezels in the form of ugly black bars when playing games or watching video. Congrats!

DisplayMate just saw that S8 screen is quite more consuming than s7's . Since 70% of the battery consumption is screen then ... there you do.

The pics are not bigger, they are 4:3 ratio, they probably smaller because the phone is less wide.

It may be faster, but since the difference in SoCs and memory is only 10% it should not be show. If it is that's either software (something which Samsung can port to S7 but probably choose not to) or a placebo effect (you think it's faster, but in 6 months time it will be equally slow).

Lastly (about thermals),you're probaby right there, but its irrelevant , matt use their phones with case so the warmth does not affect them.

Another Samsung employer struck down. Keep it coming!

Just like any other launches, including the Note7, I shall wait for early adopters to review and comment then decide.

As with Note 7 I was lucky I didnt buy that grenade fone! I will have to see what users say about the S8 and also await the review on GSMARENA. Battery life is very important. If it doesn't hit pass 100hrs then I shall pass.
