Sorry dude, Sony never copies. If they do, they do it in their own way - a better way (i.e. Fingerprint Scanner),
I'd rather take a design change than only shaving bezels. They are there for a lot of purposes

No word about the XZ getting any sorts of update, it should have been on 7.1.1 by now. I just hope they don't forget about the XZ now that the XZs is out.

This is not normal even on my s7 edge is only 7.0 and the newest s8/s8+ but some kind a mid range shit gets 7.1.2

Waiting Android 7.0 update for Xperia XA. Sony is horrible they don't support Xperia XA and Xperia XA Ultra like their other phones.
