Telus update to Samsung Galaxy S8 renders Bixby button no longer “remappable”

Following the news that Bixby voice won’t be ready for the States’ launch, Samsung indirectly confirms that the “behavior has been changed”.

All these things are only useable in English (and a few asian languages) and thus useless for the majority o/t population. It would be great if indeed you could re-map the buttons and shortcuts controlling these assistants. Not just the one from Samsung's bixby! Hell it would be great to utilise more functions to (the few) buttons on you're phone. period!

    These smartphones are way too expensive. Even an advanced model shouldn't cost more than $600.

        When people are buying a S8 they not purchasing it on the decision of bixy and the extra button. It more likely due to the huge bezless display and power of the device.

              Curse you Canadian carrier! Overcharging your customers and giving restraining updares, yes. But updating all your phones with software the OEM has delivered to you two years ago, no.

                I think this is a bad move by Samsung. First, they come up with a unnecessary feature because we already have Google Assistant. Even so, we could remap the "bixby button" which a lot of people were gonna do but they end that possibility...

                    Iphones with 1080p displays get less endurance ratings on gsmarena.

                    Theres alot of samsung devices on that list with better battery life than iphones. The best battery life on an Iphone is the 6S plus with a rating of 85 hours.

                        i wasn't going to use bixby, not only I find no use for virtual assistants but most of them speak understand english and chinese. I don't want to speak to my phone in english so the button is really usless and remaping option would make this phone a better device not just for non-english speaking regions but everywere really. I don't personally know anyone who would use ai such as siri or google assistant and I don't find much use for it either.

                            Right. For now, no one comes close the display quality Samsung flagship devices has. I just want the S8 for its screen. Yet, I've held it many times recenlty and realized I don't like the new aspect ratio.

                            Anyway, I found that the S8 display quality is the same as the Note 7. I hope the refurbished Note 7 becomes available in my country or wait for the next One Plus.

                                      First they dedicate physical button for such shitty feature like Bixby, duplicatig Google now in many ways. They don't even have a button for the Camera which is used 10000 time more often. Then they won't allow you to remap it.

                                      Maybe instead of this Samsung could begin focusing on designing fingerprint sensor placement for the S9 so it will not end up in such stupid location like on the S8.

                                        Great. Stupid Samsung. If you force us to use Bixby, just make it work first! Bixby is useless in most countries.
