Ever as useless. Worse than real ultrabook (in b... more"Silly fad. Just die". That is the comment of a true Luddite. Why would anyone want a proven technology, which has been beneficial for millions of people, to just die, instead of progressing and evolving?
Obviously, major companies are very successful and profitable selling 2-in-1s. They've been doing it since the release of the first 2-in-1, the Compaq TC1000 over fifteen years ago. Microsoft, the largest technology company in the history of the world has recently released their next generation Surface Pro 2-in-1. How is that a fad that should just die, even if your narrow vision of what should exist or not makes any sense.
Not only did Microsoft change the course of their technology 180 degrees by becoming a hardware manufacturer instead of just a software company, they didn't allow someone like you to decide that their first line of disastous Surface tablets, using the horrible Windows RT OS, was a silly fad and should just die. They allowed their genius programmers and designers to develop and evolve it to the hugely, incredibly successful product it has become today! I'm so thankful you weren't part of that team, even if I never even buy a Surface. Because that success has countless of unintended consequences that will benefit me and millions of other people. But you would have it just die because of your own personal narrow opinions.
A fidget spinner is a fad, and I wouldn't even have the audacity to say it should just die. The free marketplace will sort that out, as it has with countless other fads in the past...and, as with all fads, in a lot shorter time than fifteen years.
Thank goodness people who personally don't like something don't have the power to deny others by wishing the thing to just die. We'd still be living in caves, wishing we could remember how to start a fire because, at one time, your ancestor burned their finger and decided that fire was a silly fad and should just die.
Of course a sabertooth would have eaten that ancestor, and you wouldn't even have had the chance to just die, because you never would have been born. Homosapiens would have been a fad, just like Neanderthals.

Microsoft has nothing to d... moream not defensive. from the 1st comment its look like you judged solely based by the screen. since we all know that product doesntdefined only by screen, even if it is, Surface Pro 4 is also not slacking. in fact many praises it. try to see few youtube videos about both of the comparisons and you get what im saying. Surface experience is miles better. i will give you one of example: Samsung type cover actually is the most deal breaker, compared to infinity angle of Surface Pro 4 kickstand. other than that? fan noises. device temperature on heavy load. but i think Samsung stylus developed by Wacom might be better compared to Surface N-trig.

2in1s do not get the point of tablets (ultraportability), nor of laptops (ultra productivity on the go) and they fail at both.

Microsoft has nothing to do with pushing Samsung to develop a Super AMOLED display. Samsung had S-AMOLED screens on their Android phones and tablets long before a Windows tablet was even a sparkle in their eye.
I have, in fact, seen the Surface Pro 4's LED backlit display, and it's one of the best looking backlit screens I've ever seen. But a backlit display has inherent problems that an S-AMOLED display doesn't.
In case you didn't know it, the S-AMOLED technology is completely different from the standard backlit LED/LCD technology. S-AMOLED doesn't use any type of light source for illumination. Each individual pixel lights up itself when electrically charged. So when part of the image needs to be black, those pixels are off, making for unrivaled contrast levels, blacks that are as black as ink, and zero bleed.
I've noticed some amount of bleed in every backlit screen I've ever seen. It seems people have come to accept some bleed because most believe there's no choice, and they've never seen a S-AMOLED display. The lack of backlighting also allows the Samsung Book to be thinner and lighter than the MS Surface Pro 4.
If I were to choose the Surface Pro 4 over the Samsung Galaxy Book, it wouldn't be because of the display quality, thinness and weight. The 12" Galaxy Book is thinner and lighter than the Surface Pro 4. A Core i5, and 8GB of RAM, is more than enough to get real work done on it. The Galaxy Book also includes the active stylus and keyboard at no extra cost. Speaking of cost, the Galaxy Book will be much more affordable than a similarly equipped Pro 4.
For my money...and it is my money...I'm choosing the Galaxy Book 12".

Surface product is made by Microsoft to push Windows manufactures like Dell, Asus, and Samsung to up their game and their creativity as an example. so dont have-you-seen have-you-seen me because without Surface Pro this thing doesnt even exist. either way Microsoft is won whichever sells better anyway because thats what Microsoft aim with Surface product: to push Windows hardware and software. Learn.

And then again, 6 years ago with the release of the first mainstream 2-in-1, the Asus Eee Pad Transformer.
All these years later, and boatloads in profit later, the 2-in-1 is still going strong. That's saying a hell of a lot for a product nobody has any use for. I would love to bet you a lot of money that 2-in-1s will still be around in 5 years. And I can't wait to see what forms they'll take then.

Anonymous, 20 Apr 2017Different people have different taste, style and needs.Nobody has a need for a 2in1. There's nothing that a 2in1 does that an ultrabook doesn't do vastly bettter for less cost.
It's like the horse-driven cart, it's not a matter of style to leave it behind, it's merely the fact that cars are vastly superior in everything that a cart does, even in costs (in the long run).
2in1s only has one use -actually- that are better than ultrabook, and that is if you need to use a pen, in which case those particular products (above) are again useless as their screens are too small for that.
So yeah, it's a matter of being informed rather than (differing) tastes.

no regular usb ports, display can not stand in any angle, only usable on desktop, no hdmi, expensive, needs all sorts of dongles, no thanks

The fact that 8gb ram already exist in this Galaxy Book is more amusing. Bring it to your smartphone Sammy. Dont keep it for cheap windows tablet that not many people wants to buy.

It's looking more like a trend, especially with two of the largest makers, Samsung & MS, coming out with new editions of their 2-in-1s.The new Surface Pro and Surface Book (with detachable keyboard) are coming soon.
