A DUAL SIM DUAL STANDBY Android or Symbian qwerty non touch smartphone. I wish Motorolla Pro or Nokia E71 or HTC Cha Cha had dual sim and dual standby. Thats the main thing I want. Pls note that there is a huge market in Asia for these type of phones. My collegues and I are fed up of carrying two phones.

A feature found on some low end phones and not on the middle and higher end ones is FM Recording capability. Though not very important, it can certainly come in handy at times. I think that is something not very difficult to implement.

The perfect smartphone for me would be a strictly non touch dual sim dual standby qwerty bar type phone.
The main features that I look for is Wifi, multitasking, 3G HSDPA with EDGE and GPRS, copy paste, free HTML push email up to 10 accounts including secure corporate email with the ability to sync contacts calender and tasks, full adobe flash support on web browser with the ability to update, consolidated IM client (skype+gtalk+yahoo+msn+ovi), full office 2007 document editing support, pdf and ebook reader, PIM, USB modem, Wifi hotspot, excellent telephoney and call quality and signal, excellent audio quality in music player, radio, analog tv, ability to save emails and install apps on encrypted memory card, infrared, bluetooth, call recorder without beep, zip/rar file support, profiles, calculator, dictionery, predictive text input, 3mp camera including front facing with auto focus and vga video recording is more than enough for me. Should be less than USD 300/=. Pls no shiny/fancy UI's for me.

I would like to point out few purely usability issues with reference to touchscreen phones in particular. I think these are worthy of being included in your survey and will help people in making a buying decision. Currently I'm using Samsung Galaxy 3 GT-I5801 with Tata Docomo.
1. Headset controls like receive/end calls, play/next/pause for music player and volume control should be there as this feature is very essential in touchscreen phones
2. Number of default/stock applications should be reduced and let people purchase whichever they feel are essential. This will help in further personalization and reduce unnecessary burden on phone's memory and CPU. I have never used more than 60% of stock applications on my phone and Android Market has plenty of better ones to replace the generic versions.
3. Operating system of the phone should be reviewed. Had I known performance comparisons of Eclair and Froyo, I would have never gone for the former and waited a bit longer for next version.
4. Set up a normal usage benchmark (eg. 30 min voice calls, 1 hour music player, 20 messages and data services always on standby in a period of 24 hours) and review the battery life. If it's a secondary phone, battery life doesn't matter but a primary touchscreen phone needs to have good battery life and first time users are unaware about tweaks like task manager/killer.

Yes a lot of those already listed, but please hey must have folders within the notes section. I have from 20 - 25 sections (folders), with lots of information that I like to have with me. I have at least 250 notes on my PDA and I have trouble finding a phone that will replace the two items I carry. Phone and PDA. RIM is about the only one that does it now. I like the little 9700, but my fingers are too big for that. does anyone else make notes these days?

1)LONG Battery Life
2)Durable
3)CHEAP
4)Majority of young ppl like me prefer TOUCH phones. Or maybe QWERTY. They are heavily into social networking(INTERNET GPRS/EDGE) & SMSing.
5)Majority of ppl over 40 prefer NOKIA with alpha numeric pad. Their purpose CALL.
6)BIG Screen.
7)MUSIC & FM are must & so is BLUETOOTH.
8)decent CAMERA(>3MP).
9)Expandable Memory
10)3G/GPS optional.
11)processor speed, RAM, OS, of little use.

Use the calculator, unit converter, etc.: Calculator (N8, E72, N85), Unit converter (N85), PDF reader (E72), Photo & Video Editor (N8), SPB Shell (N8) etc.
Put down notes or tasks: Always. I like Active Notes better than Notes, so I miss it on my N8 (but my E72 has it :D)
Use as a flashlight: Not really (Used it on my N85 & the flash burnt and turned yellowish)
Use as a weight-tracker, calorie-counter, exercise logger: Not really, but I use s/w like Sticky notes, Countdown Timer, Stopwatch, Toshi etc.

good battery backup is also should included. as now many cells have good standby but their charge run out for some hours of net browsing,gaming, and waching online or self memory movies. also good internal menory or expandable option(16gb min). mobile speed and price range for sim free phone also included in your surway
