I guess I don't understand your thinking? Get an ear clock if that's all you want. Google Home is so much more than an alarm clock.
Clearly, you are not aware of everything Google Home does. Do you ever like a quick answer to a question, who sings the song with a certain phrase in it? World history facts, etc. That just scratches the surface ofGoogle Home. But you couldn't get it to tell you when to wake up, so back it went. Guess you showed them. Unbelievable???

I have the Google Home and love it. I don't understand what the problem is? Why would someone not like it? What's the problem? Google Home is the best thing I have purchased in a long time. I can listen to music all day. It's simply great.
I know Amazons device requires a month subcription to listen to anything. I have asked about if I should be paying a fee for my Google Home and was told no. I understand if I want a certain song played I would need a subscription but none is required if you just want to listen to a certain group. It's amazing and I have three Google Home devices for different parts of my home. Simply LOVE GOOGLE HOME!!

But Amazon Alexa(echo dot) require many third party app to work with, and those app also require you to pay for a membership in order to be able to use the function ( example : Spotify )

Google Home doesn't even have a sleep timer.... I returned mine after a week.
Alexa is considerably better baked and more usable.
