Guys, the pronunciation of "4" in Chinese sounds like "dead", which is why it is consider as unlucky. It's not a mentality, it is simply just sounds bad. If Chinese can avoid it using it, they would. On top of that, if you try to pronounce the brand OnePlus in Chinese, Plus would sound like Family, so when you combine all together, you would get One Family Dead.

It doesn't just sound bad, it sounds really really bad. When you know a lot of Chinese would avoid buying this phone, why would OnePlus still take that risk?
Skipping the 4 is all they need to do, everything will be normal.
XiaoMi 4, at most, just sounds like XiaoMi dead. Sure, I will give prompt to them for having balls to named their phone that. And in this case, this is just superstition and own belief. But for OnePlus, it's more than that, as it will most likely affect their sales.
"Stupid idea, cultural belief"
Call it whatever you want. If I were them, I would rather take some trash talk like that too, than having sales go down.

I never said Nokia is from China. It is indeed from Finland but because they cater to that side of the world they follow suit with what the Asians/Chinese believe in. Don't forget they always had factories in China. Even though some of their models have 4 in it, the main focus for them was NOT to make 4 the leading number of a model. I have been reading up on this for many many many years. If you research it you will see that I'm correct. Ask the internet why Nokia never manufactured a 4xxx phone.
