Report says Google will unveil standalone VR headset at I/O conference this week

Unlike Facebook’s Oculus Rift and other similar offerings by company's like Sony and HTC, Google's headset comes with on-board sensors for "inside-out positional tracking."

Secondly, What you're talking about is what Samsung did with tizen and bada or Nokia did with meego and meago. It's a hit or miss case, plus, OEMs and consumers won't jump to a newer os overnight. So the easiest strategy is replacing Android with Fuchsia while disguising as Android. It's simple and consumers won't even know whatever going on with the os.

But I think Google will keep Fuchia and Android somewhat seperate: New phones will launch with either Fuchia or Android before we completely switch over, and apps will easily be repacked for Fuchia using Dart (which is cross platform). So they'll get the popular apps on board first, and then it will be up to the rest of the developers to repackage their apps. It will probably launch on a few budget niche devices first, and as soon as it has enough native apps it will go mainstream and become the new standard OS.

Technology changed way too much in this decade, ... moreWell, that's why my initial comment said it'd be perfect for an embedded system such as the VR system Google is working on (because you don't have to work with different vendors and proprietary code and partial updates or an active user interface). That's what's going to take time before Fuchia is ready for a consumer smartphone.

After KitKat it took Google 2 years to make another stable and working version. Lollipop and marshmallow was just beta software compared to nougat.
            I don't think Google will take another 3 years. Maybe, Fuchsia is closer than we think.

It runs a new modular kernel (so that it can always recieve OS updates, regardless of the drivers, which can then be uodated independently too) called magenta that is built with Dart, a programming language created by Google. It runs all apps natively at 120fps, as background processing and the interface runs on completely different threads. It's still in development, with no real interface, but the groundwork is there and they should easily be able to use it in embedded systems with dedicated hardware such as a VR headset.

I expect the same from Fucia, and since it's been in development for two years so I hope to see it's initial debut in 2020. Even then, it would be in its baby shoes like Android was (but I guess Google will initially port a lot of features over until the new platform matures so maybe it would have close to the same amount of functionality as Android).

                    What if Google releases a standalone wireless headset and wireless room-scale tracker/motion controller combo that's also fully compatible with SteamVR? It's actually not a stretch and it would literally put HTC and Oculus out of the VR business overnight.
