I've got a 2015 Sony Android TV.
It's quite slow and buggy at first but after so many updates, especially the last Marshmallow one, to my surprise, it's now very responsive and much faster than what it used to be. This is so different to android phones, which usually get slower and slower with firmware updates.

Man, the situation is bad for Android...

    - AndroidWear, slow/non-existent updates from OEM and not Google
    - AndroidTV, slow/non-existent updates from OEM and not Google
    - AndroidOne, slow/non-existent updates directly from Google

The best support Google currently has is the Google Apps on the Android and iOS platforms. That and the support for Chromebooks seem excellent.
But Microsoft's Windows 10 (desktop), macOS, and iOS make the Android platform look disastrously broken.

C'mon Google lift your game! We can't always rely on OEMs or 3rd-party devs.

      Sounds interesting...
So perhaps I should wait with my purchase of an Apple TV?

Judging from the comments, looks like the only standalone device that still benefits from it are that flop from Asus + Google, The Nexus player.

Anyway, hardly any Android TV device now on the market will get this update. The fragmentation problem is worse than the one from Android OS. I don't understand why Google isn't forcing manufacturers to update their devices or at least make a list of the good support companies and have a badge or something for them so we know if an OS update will be more than a dream.

Wish I could try this, but now stuck to my Tizen Samsung SUHD and I love it!

There should be a TV manufacturer offering 5 years of software updates, just like Apple with phones (or Google Pixel is also ok, but no 5 years only 3)

No easy multi user in the interface.

NetFlix has multi user, why Androi TV doesnt?

I dont understand why google leave this feature behind
