Jack, 30 May 2017I was really hoping this no headphone jack thing wouldn't c... moreI hoped it will. It has long outlived it's usefulness. Time for a universal port which would be shared across all platforms across all mediums. The first real step towards a cordless (or minimally corded future).
3.5 mm had to go years ago. It's one of the genuinely good trends in the industry (with literally no downside)

It ticks almost everything. Why is there such hatred towards headphone jack ?

The Essential is a daring phone! I didn't though that somebody will put the selfie camera in the display area, pretty interesting, let's hope it won't be a fingerprint mess like S8's fingerprint sensor next to main camera. I like the fact that it's still quite a "normal" tall phone at 16:10, the ultra tall trend should end. And the magnetic points on the back can bring some useful accessories, but it's still a "can" for now. I like this phone and hope it has at least enough sales for a sequel, it's good to have daring companies like this.

Missed opportunity.
Why put a camera smack dab in the middle of your "bezel-less" screen? The whole point of smaller bezels is to make your content larger in a smaller form factor. With this phone your games and videos will appear in a smaller window to avoid that camera area. Now it's basically a phone with a big top and bottom bezel again. What's the point? No headphone jack is also a bad move, obviously. The only cool things to note are titanium and ceramic materials - those make sense. Both better than aluminum and glass.

anon, 30 May 2017Not keen. Far too expensive for the meagre spec .. particu... moreyou have to see full spec sheet ,and about battery ,they provide 27w charger, and if you pre order then you will get 360 camera free, with titanium body

edge to edge looks nice but still prefer full display all round and so far only sammy has come close to it. Anyway display aside that price tag for a no name phone is just ridiculous ... some may like it but many do not or can't be bothered with the material used.
why the heck i want titanium and ceramic on my phone ? it's just a tool to ease my life/work it can be plastic for all i care most importantly it has function & features inside that can help me in my daily life. if i want a fashion phone might as well get Fagpple right ?
the name of the game here is nice interior & exterior at a reasonable price. furthermore this company is just breaking in, your price should be even more competitive or get out.

I really like the design and slightly taller screen ratio, seems pretty compact without resorting to a curved edge display also. Not a fan of the price and unsure if it will see global availability anyway. Nice design anyway, I really hope more phones go for a slightly taller display such as this or 17:9 with on screen buttons rather than make it too tall to reach.

anon, 30 May 2017Not keen. Far too expensive for the meagre spec .. particu... morenewer LCD technoligies like IPS,LTPS etc are really ahead of what they used to be.
LCD is on par with OLED and in fact has more accurate colors than OLED. i have a sony and can put it against the samsung and the colors are more accurate on sony. Or check out HTC11 wchih uses JDI panel has better colors than s8.
its not what the marketing term suggest.

AnonD-658688, 30 May 2017i agree. you spoke my mind !He lacks imagination.
Ceramic looks beautiful and never scratches.
Put it on a bumper case like that
https://shop.r10s.jp/laudaphone/cabinet/cellularline2/bumper-kensaku00.jpg
And let the phone's beauty still slow , still you don't lose caramic's excellent scratch protection, plus you are now protected from falls, like seriously protected. Bumper cases that "open" during the fall are the best as they like all the force and the phone does not feel a thing...
So yes, ceramic is beautiful and practical, I hope more would do it.

Well, the back looks like a Pixel with a G6-ish front with the most silly solution they could have thought out of placing a front facing cam in the middle of the screen. And no headphone jack. Its not a well thought out phone. They could have moved the selfie cam, looking at the current solution they would have been better even scraping it altogether. Plus asking 699$ for it as a new player. Well, it obviously isnt going to be a best seller but most of all Im kind of surprised with the direction here. Was hoping it will be a better thought out phone.
