There are still a group of hardware key fans, but will phone makers care or just follow  the trend?

Bezel-less phones are crap. It is a crap and useless design. Bezels are useful because they protect the screen at drops/impacts and protect the screen from accident touch at the edge from your hand/palm.

People in the comments section are talking about things they don't understand.

It's about BALANCE people, you can't just go and make a 99% Screen to Body ratio phone.
The bezel isn't just wasted space, it can serve a purpose. You just have to be careful in how you arrange things and how much bezel there is.

Here let me explain, if I designed a phone:
        - Like the Nexus 5X... have a sturdy flat front (none of Apple's 2.5D/Samsung's curved sides)
        - Like the SONY Z3... Put two speakers on the front
        - Like the LG G6... shave bezels to target 80% StB ratio, its the sweet-spot tradeoff
        - Like the Nexus 5... Have On-screen buttons (they can HIDE and are USER customisable)
        - Like the Nexus 4... Use a 16:9 screen (or 17:9), least amount of letterboxing/wasting and since most content targets this there's no need to rewrite Apps)
        - Like the Alcatel Idol 3... Symmetrical design**
        - Like the iPhone 8... Fingerprint sensor under the display (If its only available just middle-bottom portion that's also acceptable)
        - Like the 2015 MacBook Pro... ForceTouch/Advanced Vibrational Haptics that feel like clicking on hardware buttons are great
        - Like the iPhone 6S.... 3D Touch/Pressure Sensor (to "right-click"/extra options for objects)
        - Like the Galaxy S7... Use OLED (Samoled or Amoled) screen for deep blacks
        - Like the Xiaomi Mix... Rounded-Pixel corners only if the screen is OLED and 17:9
        - Like the iPhone 5... A square-shaped device so grabbing the flat sides feels secure.
        - Like the HTC HD7... a Kickstand to make it a truly portable console/entertainment beast. It's made of metal which boosts antenna strength, and either scratch-protects both cameras or the Slim strip sits quietly in the middle like the red HTC EVO 4G.

*I put the "Like the phone" to help illustrate my point better to readers. I had these concepts for years, and several phones have emerged with some of these design points but not all of them. I hope this helps.

**Symmetrical Design: I would have all hardware buttons on the right side with the Power button on top, Volume in middle, And a third camera/User customisable button. There's also two microphones located on the top and bottom sides of the phone. The bottom would be the least symmetrical aspect housing the 3.5mm aux port, USB-C TB3 compliant, and a lanyard hole. The front will have two selfie cams next to the two speakers, improving Biometrics. The rear will also have two cameras with two flash located on the top and bottom corners for better quality shots and even possible 3D/AR applications. A slim kickstand can sit in the middle, like a nose to the two eyes/cameras on the rear of device. The rear cameras will be scratch protected and sit flush with the phone, like the iPhone 5, made possible by making the phone thicker (8.5mm) and using the extra thickness to increase battery life. Turning the phone upside-down will mean the functions of the hardware buttons will reverse, making it easier for left-handed people. It also means the bottom side which houses the 3.5mm aux port, USB-C connection, and a lanyard hole is now the top side, making it easy for people who want to have the ports available at the top side.

PS, you can hide the front cameras under the thin OLED display and simply turn off those pixels when taking a photo. There's little loss to picture quality. You can, but I find that redundant, as I would put them beside the front-speakers.... since having the speakers aimed directly at a viewers ears seems to slightly increase clarity, depth, and bass... but the Total Volume/treble seems to have the greatest benefit and the bottleneck for Audio in phones is definitely the tiny Volume from the limited speaker size. Some designers suggest using larger speakers aimed at the bottom and top sides (no earpiece), but we don't have the technology yet to do that and sustain the volume levels you have simply by having the speakers aimed at your ears, when we do, I will definitely reconsider them!

But on bezel less phones, I think on screen navigation buttons are fine. Won't be a big compromise.

As far as on screen buttons are concerned, I'm not a fan. Certainly don't like on screen navigation buttons taking away my screen space. Capacitive touch keys are the way to go.
