Koreans are good too but I feel like they try to copy as well. They do seem like one of the better options but anything more than 300 dollars is not a good value for me in terms of dac. Smartphones do a decent enough job.
Japanese definitely dominate the market with eletronics though and always have. Koreans have managed to copy and undercut the japanese but japanese are definitely to spot with koreans following in terms of technology. japanese have lost popular in electronic consumer but still have a lot of experience on the back before even the rise of korea.

it's noted that chinese companies are most active with audiophile digital audio players, but the quality issues deter people, mostly ui and flaky experience especially early generations, ie, companies like fiio, ibasso
korean astell and kern are well known and have a lot experience, but low battery life seems to their Achilles heel, however, they do have great hardware and ui, a less known company called opus also make dap
japanese such as sony, pioneer/onkyo have their niche market for the last few years as well

... moreastell and kern are quite well known, started off as iriver 15 years ago, then went up audiophile market, their flagship ak380 digital audio player sells for euro3500/gbp3000/usd4000.
pioneer/onkyo are very well known, they statement is that they have no compromise digital audio player with phone features dp-cmx1, they stanealone digital audio player are decent as well
even sony flagship nw-wm1z sells euro3000/gbp2700/usd3500.

what hifi and head hifi are my go to places for audio stuff. but way too many people have way too many recommendations with headphones you never know where to start as a noob.
Sticking with german brands, AKG, bang and olufsen, ATH and sony mdr100x you can't go wrong.

sony will definitely have a comeback. ps4 is already selling way more than xbox.

It's becoming true, that 2017 will be the year of comeback.
HTC went back to proper business after the underwhelming U Ultra and U Play.
Sony is starting to gain attention and improve many stuff on their phones lately, and their sales have been increasing up bit by bit. They're even becoming more and more popular here in the Philippines.
LG, like HTC, also just went back to business which they could've done last year, but better late than never.
And this year, Samsung and Apple's business are gonna go lame unless they bring something truly revolutionary.
S8 twin didn't do that much changes to the S7 twin to find a reason for an upgrade, and Note 8 seemed to be interesting but will probably a minor upgrade over the S8 twin.
Apple might have something surprising, but the iPhone 8's design is truly uninspiring with that hideous vertical dual rear camera.

Btw who makes the best music players it's Sony right? I know there is a bunch of other stuff made by companies most don't know.
I used to use a zune but Sony z3 has better sound quality so I stopped using it. It's convenient to only use one device for music instead of carrying another device for better sound quality not even audiophiles can tell the difference

AnonD-521587, 06 Jun 2017True for most of your comparisons the difference between a ... moreHTC music player ( or any other phone apart from dp-cmx1) will be comparable to a US$120 fiio x1 ( which is sounds very nice, but may have ui issues) let alone US$300 digital audio player.
even the US$200 sony nw-a25 will be better than any phone ( apart from the audiophile grade player with phone features - Onkyo dp-cmx1) which offers truly unbelievable audio but with mid range phone spec, though not cheap, you definitely get a great audio player

this can't be compared, in my country gear vr is 50 euro ans psvr is 400 euro so i think psvr is doing much better :)
