Nokia will continue to support symbian. Symbian will live on. Will it last forever? We do not know, but the microsoft deal has motivated the team to make much needed improvements to the UI and layout. Anna is only the beginning of a long string of updates from Symbian.

The big problem with WP7 is that it's even more locked down than the iPhone, and looking at the history of the Zune & XBox, that's not likely to change.

torrentblock, 21 Apr 2011"Smartphone share of Nokia is now down to 26% compared... moreQ. How do you get 26% of the smartphone market?
A. If you are Nokia start with 60% before the iPhone changed everything.

Symbian Anna is a much improvement. And X7 would be perfect with a front-facing camera. I personally believe Nokia can do more with Symbian. Symbian is so practical for me and I sincerely wish Nokia would continue to support it. The collaboration with Windows mustn't bring out Symbian's extinction.

The folks at Espoo thought they will and always be at the top! The brains in Salo also thought so! Unfortunately, everything in this world revolves and it is a true fact that the cream of the crop has got to face reality. Personally, I have worked with the finns for a long time and they sure have got to wake up. Motorola did it, it's time the finns looked at themselves in the mirror.

i dont know why nokia do not use adroid OS. infact the main reason of falling nokia down is there creapy symbyan software wich is full of bugs... and now they are going to make windows phone with no reason in my openiun coz no1 usualy uses windows based phones.. i think nokia should use android OS with there hardware qualities... nokia is way better in camera, still and video are great... well good luck nokia and best wishesh for your windows based phones:P:P

AnonD-2486, 21 Apr 2011looks like nokia's improving. With symbian anna nokia will ... moreAnna is an improvement, but I think it is about a year too late. If my N97 could have run Anna and had that type of performance, I would not have switched to an Android phone. My personal perception of Nokia is that I like their build quality, but the processor and software has fallen behind competitors. There are many aspects of the N97 that I liked, but it had too many deal breakers for me.
I haven't had a chance to try out a Windows Phone phone. No working demos at any store in my area. From what I have been able to find out via reviews is that Windows Phone I think it is more advanced than Symbian Anna. Still Windows Phone hasn't shown me anything that is better than my Android phone right now, even though Windows Phone is newer than the Android version I have (2.2 Froyo).
I'm going to reserve judgement on Windows Phone for now. The first version seems to be a little incomplete. By year's end, MS should have adequate time to build on the foundation of the first WP7 version.
As for Nokia, I'll have to see what their WP phones are like. The timeline for that appears to be 2012. From this quarterly report, it seems that Nokia can easily hang on until then. My only concern about Nokia (and MS) is that based on what I have seen so far, I don't have a lot of faith in Nokia to build a customised WP7 interface that can compete. I've followed Nokia for over a year ever since I became a smartphone user. Their lack of progress with Symbian and MeeGo in that time concerns me.

large volume of sales and profitable. isn't that the general goal of business, I imagine there are many companies that would like to have these kinds of problems. I have my doubts about windows mobile viability as a mass market solution. That's based upon my experiences with Microsoft not Nokia. xman

AnonD-171, 21 Apr 2011IF nokia can make this then this set of devices will save t... moreI agree with alot of what you said even though you have no clue what will result of that, nobody does. Anywho, the only thing I mainly disagree with you on is the 3.8-4 inch screen. Standard is quickly moving to 4 - 4.3 inch screens so if they make a 3.8 inch screen while the competition is making 4 and above then they've already lost the screen battle which is an immediate turn off to most people. Put an HD2 next to a Nexus 1 and see which one the average non-techy customer goes toward first. HD2, you know why? Because it has a Big Screen and that is mainly an attention grabber even if the specs aren't better. So Nokia would have to make the device at least 4 inch to grab the customer's attention and then when the customer's attention is gained and they start to demo the device, that's when the inside specs and OS/UI/UX start to matter. I'm sure as heck hoping that the Nokia Meego device that comes out has at least a 4 inch screen. I'd prefer a 4.3 but I can deal with 4.
