no close-ups for documents = nokia forgot E series were for bussiness people???
edof may be thinked as good for entry-level phones, *maybe* x or c series (the cheapest of each line)but now nokia put themselves out of business in the traditional E-series segment!

pleas NOKIA we have had it with touch screens go back to those top ratet phone (Nseries)wth buttons what happaned after N79? not all of us like touch screens Note Blackberry is becoming better

fixed focus camera is not suitable for close up and the shooting nearer than 0.5meter~
with in the range~ object will out of focus~!
but! i is very nice to shoot landscape which need infinity focus distance~

the flower pictures look horrible, (look at them in full size) the details are smudged and there's a lot of noise around the petals and leaves, the only good thing is the color.
As much as I hate to say it, nokia is trying to fool the people into thinking they don't need autofocus so that they can rake in more profit with the cost of their production being less.
for those people saying just place the phone a little bit further away when taking pics of documents to get focus, don't you find it awkward when you're taking pics of small text and yet you're further away? and you'll have to keep the phone extremely steady from that distance in order to get a clear shot of the text. I'll bet you'll get several blurry shots until you finally get a shot that is decent enough for the text to be readable! =P

Even with fixed focus it'll still take better pics than 99% of and roid phones currently on the market.
Seriously, if you can't read a sheet of paper on a photo 3264x2448 pixels large, you're in serious trouble

Did you even read the articles I linked to? Read them again and you might understand.
Just so you know, I prefer AF over full-focus, but am going to by a C7 because it's a decent phone for the price.

If this EDoF is so good, why is Nokia not using it in the N8-00? Why is Nokia the only company that uses it in their $200+ phones? Come on, are there any other present $600+ phones that come with full focusing like the E7-00? If Nokia only uses this on sub $200 phones, I'd still be OK with it.
I used to stan(d) for Nokia. But after they've decided to ditch MeeGo and Symbian for "M$$$$$$$$ Windows" Phone 7, I lost faith in them. Even if Nokia ever releases a MeeGo phone, I'd still rather buy a MeeGo phone from Panasonic or LG -- unless Nokia prices its products very competitively.

Wow!These pic's are awesome and looks better then the pictures taken with my Nokia N900 and Iphone 4.Not every consumer is trying to be a professional photographer and besides if I was trying to be one I wouldn't be using a camera phone for awesome pics

Is it possible to combine EDoF with auto focus (where we can choose whether to use AF or EDoF by camera settings), so we can get all the possible benefits such as fast and easy to point and shoot, capable to take close up picture or to emphasize the main object of our shot etc - that make the camera can be useful in any occasion?

I haven't tried this myself, but some people suggest that you can set the resolution at 8MP, hold the phone 50cm away from the paper, zoom in and then take the picture; or take the picture with no zoom and then cut out the unwanted parts with an editing software.

Nokia phones don't look fascinating now a days as compared to others Samsung is a true technology leader releasing technologies such as Super AMOLED Plus screens and nokia even now is stuck at Fixed Focus!

While I like quick and easy photos, these cameras do not leave me confident about note taking. Image will be blurry and this does not feel nice when you are used to crispier note images.
I am concerned of times when really small print has to be captured. Would it be reliable?
Though phone auto focus cameras left me somewhat frustrated too. They are often a bit slow and a good moment may be missed.

I do see a use for EdoF cameras. I've used those disposable cameras back in the 90's for a vacation. I am a novice when it comes to cameras at the time and it was very convenient to just point and shoot to snap a picture. For vacation photos an EdoF camera works great.
As a smartphone user, I may use my phone as a note pad. Sometimes I see a notice posted up on a wall. Instead of copying the info down on a piece of paper, it is convenient for me to take a picture with my phone. I do this often enough that I need an auto-focus camera. EdoF just isn't good enough for me.

Don't get the hate of fixed focus cams I think they're alright if you ask me.
