And Xiaomi aren't increasing the price of base models much (probably a few dollars only), they are introducing more expensive high end variants. And you can get a phone from xiaomi with flagship specs, crazy amounts of ram and storage and 18k gold accents for the price of a flagship oppo with midrange specs and overall mediocre quality. Xiaomi still has a long way to go to become expensive. And the CEO himself said that his goal is to always keep prices lower than the competition. It'll increase, but it'll take a while.

Profit margins are higher for high-end phones. Once the brand is established, the prices go northward. I have seen it happen with Samsung. It will happen to these China brands. In fact, Oppo is already doing it.

Xiaomi may be able to provide the hardware but they lack durability and software polish especially the camera.. I'll buy xiaomi for my children to play but I'll buy myself a Nokia.. I'm still using a 5 year old Nokia just fine so this Nokia 6 will last me at least 5 years probably more while my children's xiaomi...maybe 2 years max before it broke

When you take the xiaomi phones in hand, it feels solid and strong. Unfortunately after 2 weeks of using it, i noticed a significant bend . I was shocked and even more shocked coz i bent it back to make it straight. The xiaomi phones looks and feels solid but build quality is not that great. Now i got the explanation from your comment . :D

Thats just a met... morei agree with u. xiaomi redmi series just have a metallic back sitting on the phone like a cap/cover and can be removed with a pry tool. other metallic phones especially premium ones have a metallic spine. nokia 6 has a metal plate(beneath the outer metal back) as a spine screwed into the phone with 19 screws(just for the plate) whereas redmi phones don't even have total screws half that number and there is no hint of metal inside the phone. btw i own a redmi note 4 as my secondary phone and have no intention to buy nokia 6.
