Report: Samsung Galaxy Note8 unveiling set for August 26 in New York

20 June 2017
That's a bit later than the early August when the ill-fated Galaxy Note7 was officially announced last year.

Anonymous, 20 Jun 2017They haven't learnt their lesson ... they still want to rus... moreYes. If they time it just wrong like last time with the 7, they can just miss out on Android O by a week or two, possibly even less, the LG V20 was the one that beat it by a few days if I remember correctly, and then keep everyone waiting for anything up to 6 months for it. They are far more fixated on getting it out ahead of the iPhone than getting it right. Although it won't cost them that much for now, I suspect sooner or later this business idea will start costing them dear.

Have to agree. I couldn't wait back in the day to lay my hands on the Note3. Didn't change when the Note4 came. Note5 was not available in Europe and Note7 was just a fiasco. I have been an avid fan, but seeing this rushed design I'm really considering to switch after 4 years of using my Note 3 to the upcoming iPhone 8. I have really small hands but still manage to use my Note3. But if they will place the fingerprint sensor again on the back and in the middle i won't be able to reach it with one hand while on the move.

Anonymous, 20 Jun 2017They haven't learnt their lesson ... they still want to rus... moreThey are unveiling the phone not releasing them, surely they wouldn't make the same mistake again...would they?

        Anonymous, 20 Jun 2017They haven't learnt their lesson ... they still want to rus... moreDude, the Note 1 was unveiled in early September ( https://sck.pm/Bmq ), Note 2 late August ( https://sck.pm/L5X ), Note 3 early September ( https://sck.pm/fw ), Note 4 early September ( https://sck.pm/5U ), Note 5 mid August ( https://sck.pm/pmW ), and Note 7 early August ( https://sck.pm/DWg ).

2 weeks difference isn't going to change a battery defect. Nothing was rushed due to the iphone back then, nothing is being rushed now. They simply made a mistake, properly took care of it instead of arrogantly blaming their users for the flaw, and are now working on the next device for late August.

They haven't learnt their lesson ... they still want to rush it before the iPhone !
Just take time developing it, optimizing it, testing it ... then release a truely one heck of a device. October or November announcement and release is perfectly fine. Stop that maddening obsession with the iPhone release timing because it means a RUSHED product like we've seen before.

Its gonna be like having a S8+ with a stylus... don't see much improvement over S8 duo... those die hard fans of Spen may go for this as coming after a gap of 2 years ( note 7 ... unfortunate)... Others will be contended with S8 duo as prices will also cool down by the time it's announced... samsung....not worth the wait of 2 years .... some drastic improvements needed to pull the customers ( from one plus5 and HTC U11)...

samsung s8 note-- awaited -but not bees knees-- screen aspect ratio - 6.3inches -really 5.7 inch display workig area- home buttons on screen .. but since s8 s8plus sales not brilliant worldwide -- note 8 high tech HIGH PRICE - no delight if price NOT right -- samsung please play your cards right --last chance saloon - why newyork launch -- why ignore europe asia markets ... WHY NOT ONE INTERNATIONAL MODEL for doc doc globals..

So, in a way it is official, August 26. Definitely looking forward. Regarding the time frame between the two, Note 8 & iPhone/s, okay it will be before, but hopefully Samsung won't make a similar mistake of last year, I mean by rushing things up. But hopefully it will be just because everything will be ready in an ordinary way at that time. Regarding the fingerprint, definitely an embedded one in the display would be much much more better (hopefully it will happen a miracle, haha), but AT LEAST, obviously better back centered, than the one ............. on the S8 (duo), mostly the +. What's more, it is really interesting to see then, so what's more Samsung will include, improve, etc, in the Note 8? If not the embedded display fingerprint?. I mean, I hope that/hopefully it won't be basically just an S8+ (slightly bigger), with an S Pen (slightly improved stylus), and a dual camera setup??? Because okay finally it would be slightly better than the current S8 duo, but not exactly by much. I mean mostly for all those (included me) who bought/have the S8 (duo) to upgrade. So hopefully it will include something more as well than just those quite obvious. Such as: 6GB RAM &/or (hopefully, the long awaited) dual stereo speakers and more. At least they will give a quite more good reasons to those to upgrade (from an S8/+, etc) to the Note 8. Let's wait, hope and see.

This year was actually a bad year for smartphones. Fingerprint sensor on the back is just a major usability compromise. I pity those who needed to upgrade this year.

Bad News, finger print sensor on the back which certainly mean you can not put a case on it if its not near to rear cam....

Well Sami I am guessing the hardware specks are already frozen.

I hope they are the best and way better the S8+ and the Iphone 8
