Snapdragon 450 in the works, apparently related to the S625

20 June 2017
This would make it a 14nm chip while the current Snapdragon 4xx lineup has only 28nm chips.

It is (it will be if confirmed) a good news, definitely for the budget-minded phones segment.

They simply see which chips that have better prices in bulk for the margin that they want. This is why we rarely see Qualcomn newer mid-low end chips on the market. Many OEMs are still using older chips like SD410. Whatever they can get cheap in bulk.

It is annoying that Qualcomn is keeping their custom cores (like Kyro) only for the 8xx lineup. Even the 6xx don't get it, only getting the generic A53/72. Worse is the 4xx lineup as it didn't even get the up-to-date modem.

When intel refresh their processors, every lineup gets the same baseline (eg. kaby lake), then the difference is just in the performance (like clock speed, turbo boost, etc). Qualcomn should do the same. Put Kyro on all lineup (at least the 6xx lineup as well), or at least feature match the connectivity (modem). SD4xx is the lower end, doesn't mean it has to have older modem. Imagine if intel restricts wifi ac only for i7. Doesn't make sense.

Good. SD430 was okay on 720p , but for 1080p 1.4ghz and Adreno 505 just not that strong. On other hand nobody needs 2.0Ghz Cpu on 625 and it was expensive. Something like 1.6Ghz 8 cores with improved 505 will perform excellent and with better efficienty from 625!

My Moto G2 has the SD 400 and on it I only have a few apps and and games(only 2D games) and whenever I play a game even the light weight ones make the phone hot as fire, the back and especially the screen are so hot after a few minutes that I can't hold it anymore! :/

Nokia should have used this for the 6 and 5. The amount of time it has taken to release the phone means that the 430 will have dated. Something like this would have kept the fans waiting or have something to look forward to.

I hope companies don't cheap out by utilizing the SD450 when they can opt for SD630 especially for so-called mid-range devices (with mid-range prices).
4xx series should be strictly limited to low-end offerings IMO.

It's like driving a car with a small engine: You'll need less petrol in a certain time frame, but it'll take you longer to reach your goal so in the end, the advantage is not that big and longer waiting times are always annoying.
