Nokia N8 gets dressed in pink, ladies sigh

02 May, 2011
Nokia N8 is already available in five distinct hues - orange, blue, green, silver white and dark grey. It seems the variety wasn't enough so today Nokia launches a pink N8. Is that Symbian Anna running...

Just because you failed to look into it doesn't mean they "added" the feature later on. Redundant is thy name. USB OTG is useless for mass majority of people. Who wants to carry a fold out keyboard, USB OTG adapter? Most people would just carry their laptop if they needed to edit documents that badly. Connecting a usb flash drive for what purpose? Again, the phone itself is already a flash drive, a large one at that, 8 GB. For your every day documents thats more than enough space, videos you say? Unless you're ripping full DVD quality videos onto your flash drive, even a 32GB flash drive would only hold a couple of DVD quality videos. When did Amazon do pricing by county? Amazon USA list the same price for everyone. Like I said, Vibrant Unlocked is 399 on amazon, same price as your N8, more powerful, larger screen, better OS.

A phone with USB OTG support can act as a host and you can connect USB devices to it with the help of a special cable, something like this:

        http://europe.nokia.com/find-products/accessories/all-accessories/memory-cards-and-cables/cables/nokia-adapter-cable-for-usb-otg-ca-157

You can connect flash memories, external HDDs and even keyboards, but not everything will work.

AnonD-291, 03 May 2011SC-LCD is brighter, has better viewing angles and has bette... moreMost of your points are valid but I have to disagree with the following:

"There is no practical application of it other than in a car, where FM transmitter is just one of the MANY ways you can listen to music."

and that's the whole point of it, to use it in a car and it's very practical. I find it damn useful because it's the only way for me to listen to my phone's music in my friends cars.

                "faster processor"
                "2X user available RAM"

not really valid points because of totally different platforms. Symbian is a very lightweight OS.
For example, while no ARM11 android phone is capable of 720p recording and playback, all symbian^3 phones are, thanks to hardware acceleration. Symbian^3's UI is also HW accelerated while android's is not.

"better homescreen and widget layout and management"

This is actually an opinion, just like the following, which is mine. I personally find symbian^3 UI very straightforward and easy to use.

                "live wallpapers"

I don't know but I personally don't consider this a useful feature but mostly a battery hog. Again this is just my opinion.

AnonD-695, 03 May 2011super lcd is just a marketing gimmic. ill take amoled anyda... moreSC-LCD is brighter, has better viewing angles and has better sunlight legibility compared to regular LCD. It also has mDNIE technology from sammy. While I would agree that SC-LCD is not better than Super AMOLED or S-AMOLED Plus or IPS LCD or CBD, it is at par with regular AMOLED.
If you call SC-LCD a marketing gimmick, then i'd be forced to call FM transmitter a much bigger gimmick. There is no practical application of it other than in a car, where FM transmitter is just one of the MANY ways you can listen to music.
Samsung Galaxy and WAve phones have Wolfstein sound chip and DNSE technology from samsung, and its sound quality is nothing short of exceptional.
About Maps, you have the Google MAps 5 which offers offline navigation, vector graphics, 3D view, street view and is much more smoother thanks to 1Ghz processor.
Samsung has already updated galaxy S i9000, so this one will get one pretty fast.
About battery, GSL has an extra 450 mAH of juice, which I believe should make up for the low battery efficiency of android froyo.

The ones you mentioned along with camera, are the unique advantages of N8, but GSL too have advantages like faster processor and better resolution (you mentioned), 2X user available RAM, 200,000 apps, Adobe flash 10.2, better homescreen and widget layout and management, more customizability, bigger screen, thinner profile, live wallpapers, non lagging browsers and navigation, etc
But main point is that SL is around 110$ cheaper (than N8) for me, so is a much better option in my country (Dont know about you).

                              In my county Galaxy S costs 580$, N8 500$. I checked amazon and in US N8 costs 400$ and galaxy S 440$.

Even Galaxy S lacks some features like USB On-the-go, HDMI port, FM transmitter, Active noise cancellation.

On a lower level, the best android phone in C7's price range is Galaxy Ace, but it just can't compete with C7 feature wise.

[deleted post]We're just comparing the flagships. N8 is supposed to be the Nokia flagship, right ? if it can't compete or if Nokia can't produce a better one, then its Nokia's problem. I wonder if Nokia gave up making high end phones after the N95 or N900. Maybe E7 is the better phone matching other flagships' price range, but e7 doesnt come close, not even as much as n8 when compared to other flagships.

"p.s havent found a single phone within the n8 price range that can fully compete with it in overall terms"

Take a look at the Galaxy S i9003 version, which costs around 100-120 $ LESS than n8, yet is better overall (except camera).
