AnonD-555284, 30 Jun 2017I don't think such an app will be useful in my country, Ind... moreIt's being testing in the Philippines because the two cellular carriers, GLOBE and SMART, both have $HIT infrastructure and not enough bandwidth going in/out of the country.

Anything they can do to reduce the amount of data going across their networks will have huge impact. That's why they, in conjunction with Google, are giving this away.

What GOOGLE should be doing to improve network service in the Philippines (BTW - Philippines ranked around #120 in speed...no better than Afghanistan!) is run 5 or 6 undersea fiber cables to the Philippines and make Manila (one of the most densely populated cities in the world) Google's first Google Fiber City in Asia.

You can alreadly block the access of specific apps to the internet (therefore blocking data usage) with the firewall that is a native part of the Linux kernel in Android: iptables. And you can do this easily with a GUI app for iptables like AFWall+.

Triangle just seems like a way for Google to track what you are doing more and distract people from the complete control you get over your device with iptables, with some very dumbed down version of the same thing.

I've only started using it and I have already earned 120 MB worth of free data of using apps that I use everyday (Pinterest, Google, Grab) and the app promises that I can earn more everyday. It also gives me a view of how much data I have used, what mobile data promotions I am subscribed to, and how much of it is left. It works like a firewall, too, limiting data access to applications. Coolio!

This application is available in south america, I am from venezuela and I would like to use it

they should start with an ad-blocking feature in chrome. it's just a data and battery hog due to adverstisements.

Probably one of the most useful apps google made and that free day thing love it release it globally google

Hope a day later, Google creates apk/apps for patch, sdk or some kind of antivirus to secure all users from android devices, and it's more secure and save.

Novel idea although I see supporters of net neutrality sharpening their pitchforks and a future billion-dollar lawsuit by the EU.

this is the same as opera max. I am using opera max for a year, for blocking certain apps.

blocking data to individual apps = blocking background running for individual apps.

My phone battery last longer, phone run faster too.

The short version is that there's essentially nothing anyone can do to "incentivize" me to install stuff I don't care about. As for data, I'm already restricting that as I please with a firewall - actually, what I want to restrict mostly is various app's access to MY data on the phone, but that's not something Google would be happy to let me do, obviously. No matter, Xposed does kinda work instead...

I don't think such an app will be useful in my country, Indonesia. See, data plans are very affordable here if not cheap especially 4G. You could get 5 GB data plan for less than $8.

I think this app will be useful if you use app using data in background. As in my country, mostly user consume their plan for streaming YouTube or chatting over their socmed apps.

But still, kudos for Google to take data saving into consideration.
