AnonD-632062, 05 Jul 2017Nice. One thing I have noticed is that camera's used in car... moreits not exposure per se, it's ISO. that's because the sensor is not able to capture enough light (cheap/small sensors).
cmos sensors able to capture enough light are still very expensive. the ones they put in your car as usually in the 1usd range. the ones you want are in the 100usd range (just the sensor)

ISOCELL Technology... ISOCELL Technology... Err.. And Samsung still uses the Exmor R CMOS sensors from SONY ! For god's sake it's enough Samsung!

MobileMan, 05 Jul 2017Samsung & Sony , both take different approaches to phot... moreactually no. colour temperature and contrast can easily be boosted with even the simplest of mobile apps, let alone professional photoshop programs on pc, and you get to keep the sharpness and detail of Sony sensors as well as have the saturation and contrast you prefer. If you take a Samsung sensor photo (ie the more contrasty saturated one) you can't restore information that wasn't there to begin with, like details in shadows. You can decrease the contrast, colour, and boost the sharpness to make the photo look exactly like a Sony photo. But you will see upon 100% that you get noise as a result of added sharpness.
So the winner is clearly Sony because of the more information to work on.

Nice. One thing I have noticed is that camera's used in cars are pretty poor at night. They dial up the exposure so high, that the images come out very noisy. Hopefully, that will be fixed.

Actually you can get zoom(8mp from 2x4mp), depth and low light(smaller res. or separate rgb) in one device with multi aperture cameras(like 2x1 or 2x2), more cameras in one device - the better. How did they managed to separate this. Fail even before start.

Samsung & Sony , both take different approaches to photography.

Samsungs approach is more on saturated daylight photos at cost of sharpness & detail , remember what samsung said of ISOCELL - More saturated daylight & Night time colours , so even in Night time samsung catches steet lights , LED colours brighter & better than Sony.

Sony relies on Warm colour settings so there is more detail & sharpness in there photos daylight or Night , but colours can have some tint , even in Night time sony shows more detail in shadows or sharpness & better lighting control ie. street light , LED signboards in HDR mode than samsung can provide in any mode .

So if you want colours and better contrast in Daylight go with samsung , if you want better shots in Dark go with sony HDR mode , & more detail in daylight. Its more of Preference.

Simon, 05 Jul 2017I wish some of the sensors were large. I wish they used thi... moreLarger sensors means thicker camera modules. Cameras have 5 to 6 lenses inside. Most of the thickness came from the lenses. Less lenses would mean poorer image quality with distortions and aberrations. If the camera has IOS it also gives extra thickness.

With today's mainstream sensor technology and smartphone thickness factor, 1/2.3" is pretty much largest sensor size you can get. There is a reason Nokia did not release a successor to Lumia 1020.

Dual camera is not a step back either.

Samsung definitely has the expertise to surpass Sony in their camera sensor quality. They had one of the best camera sensors in NX1 before they decided to call time on their camera business. I am sure they can translate their success in making quality camera sensors to the handphone market.

I wish some of the sensors were large. I wish they used this to squeeze in larger sensors into equally slim cases. I don't see anything about that. Dual cam is a step back.

AnonD-643330, 04 Jul 2017Samsung's isocell sensor is better than SONY'S exmor sensor... moreI have compare the previous version of isocell with Sony previous version exmor sensor, they have different, exmor sensor sensor take more naturally images. While isocell is a bit on unnatural side, I call it Artificial image, the color also not real/same to the scenes, truly a Artificial imaging systems.
