this carries thing is stupid! in finland, i bye phon from
anywhere and just buy a som simcard so i can call and stuff. and i do all i want to do!i can call from japan, mexico,sahara,israel,siberia and my phone works, all calls work!

This sounds crazy, surely if you have a data allowance if u go over it u pay extra regardless of whether u are tethering or not? Why don't the carriers just bill accordingly?

Its ridiculous they block tethering.
you pay for a data package, how you use it, it's not their problem.
I'm not from US, but I think the costumers have to unite and sue the carriers.
If this star where I live, I'll certanly sue them.

my friend has a problem at his house where all he can get is dialup speeds so in order to play black ops on line he has to tether, how we gonna play if it gets blocked?!?!?! NOOOOOO!!!!!

ATT won't block the apps, they just slap an additional tether plan to your monthly bill.

one thing i wanted to post as a at&t tech rep, 95% of data useage on the wireless network is done by 5% of the people. that is the main reason why there is enforcment on these packages

In India tethering is encouraged and even explained in detail by the handset makers as well as the carriers.

I'm not from the US but this sh!t shouldn't be legal. As someone said before me, you get the tetherig option in the money you pay for the phone.. and you allready pay the carriers for the traffic, why should they 'censor' your use of that service? This should be against the law over there.

Ehhh.. App? Here in Sweden my HTC comes imbeded with tetheringfunction in the operating system itself, without having an app. Carriers don't care about it and absolutely normal to tether here. They even show you in carriershops how to use the tetherfunction if you ask them. How do people live in that controlling capitalist "DEMOCRATIC" country?

I am a Tmobile user with custom version of Andriod 2.2 and I have installed an app to enable tethering. I do not have tethering on my data plan, but because I'm not running the standard Tmobile Andriod it works fine. This is annoying that I have to go to this extreme to get tethering to work, but I am ok with it. The part that does annoy me is even if you do get the tethering option from your carrier there is a small part of the contract that states if you go over a pre set amount of data your bandwidth will be restricted down to edge speeds. For T-mobile its 5GB and I believe its the same for AT&T. This way they can still get away with saying you have unlimited internet, but its so slow not much can be done.

From the news I've been hearing in the last years I feel like US is turning into an ugly mixture of corporate mafia and dictatorship. Endless law suits, software patents etc. This news is another drop of that gift.

also at&t isnt offerin unlimited data plans for a cheap as they used to be, now that they been haveing people tethering, BS
