Apparently this website seems to have more info about the 2.3 upgrade than do the HTC operators on their webchat facility - http://www.eurodroid.com/2011/05/htc-android-2-3-for-unbranded-htc-desire-hd-and-incredible-s-due-on-16th-may/. I really hope this info is correct as I'm tired of checking for updates all the time!

Why dont HTC just admit they jumped the gun and there is no update yet for the desire HD.
i mean how long do they think were going to buy this 30k phones a day rubbish?
fed up of checking updates will check again in June which is when i think they ment to post the announcement.
talk about poor customer services.

Hi, for those who managed to upgrade to the updated 2.3 OS, can i check whether you are able to make 3G video calls via cellular network. Was told by HTC support in Singapore that this will be possible with the OS upgrade. Can anyone confirm this? Thanks in advance.

Jimbo, 09 May 2011Contacted HTC again using their webchat facility and posed ... moreI really dont think they know what there saying to us!! I talked to the same person on live chat this morning and at first said that branded phones were getting the update first, then 5min later said sorry unbranded phones are getting it first.
said that they have no dates such as the 8th on there system for any updates. nor did they know anything about the 8th and that it could be right up till the end of may before some people may get the update!
When I talked to them about the 2.2.1 update they said that it had not been pulled and there were no issues with it. they say one thing one min and another the next!!
HTC market themself on making things simple, the way they do there updates is far from simple.
Simple would be giving us the option to wait for an OTA update or go on there site and download it!!

Contacted HTC again using their webchat facility and posed the following question: - "Hi, I have an unbranded HTC Desire HD phone on the T-Mobile network and I'm in the UK. The upgrade to 2.3 Gingerbread has been out for several days now but no notification yet stating that the upgrade is available. Can you tell me what the hold up is please?"
This is the transcript: -
Please wait while we find an agent to assist you...
You have been connected to Olga.
Olga: Hi Jimbo, thank you for contacting HTC Support, I’m looking in to your query now.
Olga: In regards to the 2.3 update, you will be issued with the update very shortly, as it has just been released last week it may take a couple of weeks until the update reaches you.
Olga: Is there anything else I can help you with today?
Jimbo: I was told by Jason that they can only do 30K a day. Here's the transcript. Jason: Hi Jimbo, thank you for contacting HTC Support, I’m looking in to your query now.
Jason: 2.3 was released for your device yesterday. It may take a couple of days to get through to your device as we do about 30k devices a day.
Jimbo: I take it then not everyone in the UK can update their phone on the same day like you could if you had an iPhone and connect it to iTunes to perform an update. How will I know where I am in the queue as there must be hundreds of thousands of these phones in circulation in the UK?
Jason: We are doing 30k a day up to the 8th of this month. then after that all devices will be able to update
Jason: This is so we don't overload the OTA servers
Jimbo: Okay fair enough. I'll just wait until it's my turn then in that case, cheers.
Jason: Is there anything else I can help you with today?
Jimbo: No that's it Jason thanks for your help.
Jason: Thank you for contacting us, I hope
Olga: I do understand, and Jason is correct, we DO issue over 30,000 a day but this will still take some time.
Olga: After the 8th it is your network provider that is responsible for issuing the update to you by OTA.
Jimbo: Apparently Vodafone UK have been issuing updates but no other carriers it would seem. Any reason why unbranded ones aren't getting the update first as would normally be the case.
Olga: Unfortunately i do not have information on this, yes Vodafone are currently issuing it out first, i would imagine it will not be long until other networks are also issuing the update for their customers, all we know is that branded devices are getting the update first.
Jimbo: Thanks for the info Olga, I guess I'll need to be patient that little bit longer, thanks for your assistance today.
Olga: No worries Jimbo, thank you for contacting us and please dont hesitate to come back again.
Sorry I don't have any good news for those Desire HD and Desire S users out there in the UK, it's not really a good situation but hopefully it won't be too long now.
