dladz, 09 Jul 2017do you actually believe that? Then you're not using your co... moreI'm talking about a use case scenario for 99.9% of PC users. There are exceptions mostly programmers and artists handling large RAW files and 4K/8K video files and carrying out system emulation/virtualization. As for Android phones, 8GB RAM is really just a waste of resources. However, it does make users feel good about having bragging rights to the most RAM, the most megapixels in a camera and the highest density screen. And NO, it's not future proofing. The stupidly small capacity non-removable batteries installed on most flagship Android phones with gazillion GB's of RAM and megapixels ensures that the phone batteries will be long dead before a few Android apps even start using the superfluous RAM.

Shhzd amar, 09 Jul 2017Another youtuber doing useless things to make money... What... moreI agree. Personally, I pay more attention to other RAM specs, like the LPDDRx and the clock speed. However, in terms of total RAM, I think there should be a minimum amount that is crucial to have for any type of user. For me, for example, the certain amount of total RAM that can hold a heavy game without "close it" while I do some important tasks (like sending a message, or receiving a call, even if I need to open the browser to check something) is enough. And that's also an example of my type of multitasking, as I do not keep unnecessary things openned.

OnePlus is such a scam they probably haven't modify the code to take advantage of the extra 2 GB RAM

Another youtuber doing useless things to make money... What more did you expect from the 8gb model? Don't forget, only the RAM is increased there is no changes in the hardware or even the clock speeds... Then how can you expect better performance? The difference is where it should be, i.e, the one who keeps the apps in memory... And its obvious that the 8gb version should have more apps in memory because its just straight away 2gb more... The people who do crazy multitasking should need 8gb or else 6gb is also enough...

eg: Run CEMU which is a wii U emulator, now run any Wii U game and your ram will go over 12GB so long as you have it.

This benchmark is pointless, the phones had different settings, apps and battery life. Phones needs to have identical software and firmware to compare fairly, do not trust these results.

8GB of RAM in an android phone? Phone manufacturers are seriously going crazy just so their phones will stand out from the competition even if the implementation is stupid! Even 64-bit Windows 10 PC's barely go above 4GB of RAM even with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, a photo editor, video editor, Windows Mediaplayer and Chrome with 20 tabs ALL SIMULTANEOUSLY OPEN. Anyone can try that experiment on their Windows PC's and view Task Manager Memory usage and see for themselves just how much RAM a PC actually uses even with heavy multitasking. Really just a serious waste of resources just like the camera megapixel race. Oneplus would have made a better phone if they instead used the amount spent for the stupidly excessive/superfluous RAM on some more useful and worthwhile feature: a bigger 4000mAh+ battery, a hybrid slot for sd card storage option, an IR blaster, FM radio, or an IP68 rating. As it is it is like the 13+++ megapixel cameras we now have on our phones only to waste memory storage when only 8 megapixels is needed to print a letter sized photo or view in a 4K tv. As it is, most people actually only post and view captured photos in Facebook mobile and in 5.0"-6.0" phones!

A bit off topic, but I think that the Honor 8 Pro is a better option than the OnePlus 5 (at least in India). 6 GB RAM, 128 GB ROM, Kirin 960 Chipset and a pretty good dual camera.
