To reduce bezel is ok..
But to reduce it until it compromise fingerprint scanner, round unusable corners. Its just plain useless.
Rather turn those pixels off, and save some power for those poor batteries.
And btw.. it can never kill S8 nor iP8. Nothing can kill by just simple copying.. they have to break thru.

Not that I'm defending XiaoMi, they don't even sell their phones where I'm from,
but looking at it from my perspective you're all doing pointless complaining...
It's not like you're gonna buy the product anyway.
And to those complaining about the missing features... It's a render, this isn't the
guaranteed product that they'll be producing, chill bruh...

When they finally stop selling them they usually drop support in six months or so.
Also Xiaomi are still updating Mi 2 and Mi3, now THAT is impressive (and meaningful updates doesn't have to mean Android 7.1.2).
As an ex-iPhone user I remember that the best trick to avoid bugs and lags was to NOT update.

I'm a current Redmi 3S Prime (hm3s/land) user and I'm typing this with a straight face; NOTHING can ever be an iPhone killer so long if it still does not catch up to Apple's more generous way of up to 3 years worth of base OS and software updates. Look at iOS 11 that still supports iPhones 6 and 5S.
We can talk bezelless or 16GB RAM all day any day but it means absolute crap if it's gonna be stuck to just 1 base OS updates and probably vers of MIUI.

Welcome to the future when everyphone looks similiar,characterless and can be distinguished by just how rounded the corners are
Sony's/MiMix/Sharp'= Sharp rectangle corner bezelless screen
Sam's/iPhone's/Essential's/Lg's = Rounded rectangle corners
Xiaomi x1 = bezelless with too rounded corners
Future = Oval bezelless screen (smart watch?)
Further Future = No Screen and already integrated to our body like a cyborg
