I love my Camo-green S7 Active. It's unlocked & I'm using it with "Mint Sim" carrier (its T-Mobile MVNO). And I don't use any case, just a tempered glass screen protector. I really love the camouflage back, people ask me about my phone all the time, lol.

The Active series has a "built in" case, but it's barely raised up enough to protect the screen.
And nevermind that the S7 had some units shipped that were susceptible to water damage and Samsung never recalled them, they just offered a free exchange if you got water in the phone. Lame.
All that said, I'm still interested in the S8 Active because it's their only flagship with a flat screen. I really hate their curved screens.

Fantastic news. Like many others, I don't see the point in slim, lightweight and beautiful phones wrapped up in ugly cases. Build it like you mean it is the way to go!

Well if Samsung persists with this absurd worldwide exclusivity with at&t, I hope Motorola / Lenovo will bring the z2 force in Europe !
And Motorola offers a very light android skin, I would definitely prefer this over samsung revamped touchwizz...

I'm just really disappointed with Samsung and their SGS6, Note 5, SGS7, SGS8.
I don't get why they're just so fragile. Remember the Note 4, that could take some beating.
Hell, even the LG G6 holds up okay.
I just think Samsung's taking two steps back, one step forward.
So the SGS8 Active may only be as sturdy as, say, the Note 4.
It won't be as sturdy as the SGS5 Active - that phone was much much more durable.
Again, maybe not "heavy duty", but not some fragile bar either.
Dunno, I just think OEMs are making phones less repairable and more fragile to increase their revenue streams. Which forces people to slap thick/heavy/ugly cases on them. Which in turn undermines the whole point of the "beauty" design when it is hidden under layer/s of Plastic. So they should make the phones pleasing but robust; ie feature before form. OR they should copy Nokia's 3315 and make the base phone, and have the housing be customisable, snapping on/off at the whim of the user.

Please come quickly! I absolutely loathe the curved screened S8 and I need to replace my S5. I would have jumped on the LG G6 train were not for their poorer battery performance and fragility issues...

Anyway, in that case it is you who is dreaming, because even a little child would comprehend that I used the terminology just in mobile phones durability terms, and not that I meant that it is atomic proof (exaggerating). But basically because it was and is absolutely obvious that what I wanted to mean is that it is slightly more strong, durable, etc., (than the regular vertion) Or whatever terminology you prefer to use, if non of them anyway. Well, so then tell me what the word Active/rugged, etc., stands for.

This will just be "regular duty", whilst the vanilla SGS8 is "extra fragile" category.
On a side note, now would be the opportunity to fix the fingerprint scanner position.
I'd wager that Samsung didn't seize the chance and fixed this design flaw.

This is the Active version of the S8, so it would be unconventional if it would be vice versa and not as it is. In simple words, it is like comparing a Mercedes (the brand just for the example) truck with a Mercedes car, it doesn't makes a lot of sense. So you have to compare a truck with another truck and a car with another car. In other words compare the S8 Active with another Active/rugged, etc., phone and not with the standard version.
