Ah, Samsung. They just know how to make profit. Mist of the next iPhone will be Samsung-made. Maybe all of it with some bundle rebate.
They do everything. Cameras, storage, display, RAM, CPUs, batteries (now available without explosion mode)... That's how they've got enough money to build themselves an actual city with absolutely everything you'd expect in an important city.

A smaller process does mean that the heat generated for a same work is greatly reduced compared to a bigger process (say, 10nm), but you can also reduce the size of the CPU die, which means you can pack more stuff in your devices. It also means you can have more transistors and a higher clock rate, both of this meaning better performance.

Changing the architecture, updating the instruction sets and other stuff they do to processors, brings additional benefits to the device.

But don't forget the microarchitecture, and the software/driver at hand here too.
They can have drastic effects on the efficiency.
Not to mention other components (eg/ bandwidth) that can bottleneck a system's performance or low-power drain.
Individual components are nice, but usually, electronics are more than the sum of their parts.

RaDeon, 18 Jul 20177nm means less heating while running heavy games in high gr... moreBasically in phones a major limit of CPU's is the amount of space in the phone to dissapate heat compared to the amount of heat created by the processor. The smaller the processor, the less metal electricity has to go through creating less electrical resistance and less heat. This means that a 7nm chip will be more thermally efficient compared to a 10nm chip. So now the chip is both more effecient and outs out less heat so the manufacturer can make a faster chip that uses the same amount of energy and creates the same amount of heat as a larger chip. Sorry that explanation was a bit messy.
