I wonder to what all the 18 months of updates policy will apply to? New phones only? Specific models? Models sold over the last few months?

Google is bring new features in every release of Android. but still it cannot match the performance what iOS has been giving up till now on a cost of restricted features. Despite of new features, Google should optimize the OS deeply so that the performance level increases and it would be able to run smoothly even on ARM processors with 600Mhz. Currently to enjoy the extends of Android, one must have a handset with a processor of at least 1GHz. Not every owner in this world can use all the features of the phone, but s/he can enjoy the optimized and smooth OS.

18 months of updates, IF the hardware allows it....Here's the perfect excuse for manufacturers to deny updates, after all who can blame them?(ironic) Add the fact that updates don't create profits only sales. Hmm...don't expect too much people.

What consumer need is also stability in the os, battery management, and beter app manager (ie killer apps) like windows 6.x it just work without the app coming back on by itself after it has been killed by the app killer. I have a galaxy s(vibrant) and after 2.2 update with mini kies, the gps lock now takes over 10 min, and os sometimes slow. But even with these complaints I still love androids over other os!

Atlast the update policy is here ,which is very much dedicated policy in windows phone 7 and symbian, this is the right step by google to force all the companies using android to constantly give the updates for 18 months, now no more people will be made a joke by the companies
