It will be exactly like iphone's 7 camera. There is no optical zoom thanks to a zoom lens, it is a sensor with less degrees for the field of view. So the picture captured by the "zoom" camera will be bigger. The main camera have around 80° opening, the "zoom" camera have 50° opening. So will result a bigger picture. It is a cheap marketing gimmick. This is why i want more and more pixels, over 25 mp: i can crop as i want, no need of gimmicks.

                    Perfect camera duos -

Note8 with 3x optical zoom and G6 or V30 with wide-angle. Maybe get the G6 for smaller size.

The best combo from last year is iPhone 7 Plus and V20. The V20 does have the superior sensor over the G5 although it does suffer in other areas. I usually have two holster cases and when I travel, I think I plan to bring only my V20 and Pixel. The Pixel is the perfect size and pretty nice in low light.

I may never get a Samsung again because I hate their bloated, laggy, glitchy software. S7 edge does take nice photos in the dark but its software experience is too much of an annoyance for me as well as the curved display nonsense when trying to type.

The iPhone 8 or whatever isn't an option either because I despise iOS' boring UI and restrictions. And it well be glass rear again. So the iPhone 7 Plus and V20 really does make the perfect camera duo balance with metal backs and better software experience. My ideal is really the phones I own now but I don't experience 2x optical.

V20 (better low light, wide) + Pixel (size, HDR+)

The knock on the Pixel is no microSD slot. I only have 12 gb left without putting any videos or photos on it. I am waiting what type of camera the Nokia 8 will bring but it doesn't have microSD slot either. Thinking of buying a $80+ 200gb PNY microSD, that's why. Future proof for storing 1080p and 4K videos.

Kangal, 24 Jul 2017Yeah, sounds good on paper or advertisements. But will it ... morePeople there are photographers.
They know how to extract whole potential.
Not point and shoot test that ignore the fact some situations you need manual.
Auto is not apropriated for all situations.

People get angry because Samsung and Apple never get the highest score in the end of year.

If there's one that really nailed the greatest use of dual camera, it's Huawei.
After the debut of monochrome+RGB setup on the P9, Huawei's photography skill truly increased by a margin, and often beat Samsung in that regards.

I tried the standard Huawei P10 and totally fell in love to the still photos it takes - natural, detailed, clear, just superb and I can only imagine Sony achieving something similar. I guess Huawei's approach to dual camera is the best one as of now, and not those gimmicky wide angle lenses (GoPro's exist and can take much better pictures and videos as well as more flexible, so what's the point?) or telephoto zooming (that lacks OIS and useless in low light).

I'll bet that the price will hit the same level as the coming iPhone 8/x/anniversary/edition what ever the name will be..

Yeah, sounds good on paper or advertisements.
But will it translate to actually noticeable improvements in a practical or real-world scenario?

And if so, how can we make sure of it, or quantify the performance?
                                        Is DXoMark trustworthy anymore?
